Macedonia In The Eurovision Song Contest 1998
Vlado Janevski represented Macedonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 after winning the national final selection with the song "Ne zori, zoro", which made altogether a country debut at the Eurovision Song Contest. Before Eurovision Skopje Fest 1998 The final held on 7 March 1998 at the Universal Hall in Skopje accompanied by the big orchestra of MKRTV. Milanka Rašik and Aleksandar Delovski hosted the event, and the winner was selected by televoting for the first time. At Eurovision Heading into the final of the contest, BBC reported that bookmakers ranked the entry joint 25th (last) out of the 25 entries. Vladimir Vlado Janevski ( mk, Владимир Владо Јаневски ) is a popular Macedonian singer. He was North Macedonia's first Eurovision contestant, finishing 19th in Birmingham at the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Ne Zori, Zoro". Biography Vlado Janevski was born on 27 November 1960 in Skopje, resided most of his adult years in Čair and as of 2021 moved to Gevgelija. North Macedonia, previously presented in the contest as the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R. Macedonia), has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 21 times since its official debut in 1998. Vladimir Petrovski ( mk, Владимир Петровски' ; born ), better known by his nickname "Karter", is a Macedonian musician and founder of the bands Saraceni, Badmingtons, Aleksandar Makedonski and Opstrukcija. Early history Petrovski started playing guitar in Fol Jazik, Macedonia's first punk band. In 1978 he began to learn about sound engineering. In 1981, he founded the punk band Saraceni. Karolina Gočeva ( mk, Каролина Гочева, ; born 28 April 1980), sometimes credited as Karolina Gocheva or known only as Karolina, is a Macedonian pop singer. Andrijana Janevska ( mk, Андријана Јаневска, born December 6, 1981) is a famous Macedonian singer and musician. Biography Janevska was born in Skopje, SR Macedonia, Yugoslavia (in present-day North Macedonia) where she currently works and lives. Her occupation is a violinist for the Macedonian National Opera. In addition to her musical talents, Andrijana also enjoys playing chess as a hobby. She is also proficient in playing the piano and her first composition was created at the age of 11. Risto Samardžiev (Macedonian: Ристо Самарџиев), born 17 August 1964 in Skopje, is a Macedonian singer and songwriter. He started his musical career when he was 16 years old. He formed the Cilindar group in 1981, which was one of the first New Wave rock bands in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia. He was also the frontman of New Romantic group Haos in Laos. In 1987 he was invited to perform on MakFest, the largest music festival in the country. The song he performed, Chilli Willi (Чили Вили) then became a hit in Macedonia. Petar Georgiev-Kalica ( mk, Петар Георгиев-Калица, born November 19, 1951, in Bitola) is a Macedonian composer and songwriter. Many of his compositions are traditional folk songs inspired by his home town of Bitola. His first major success was in 1989 when he participated in the Macedonian music festival Valandovo as a songwriter of the song "Ako odam vo Bitola" ("If I go to Bitola"), performed by Oktet Makedonija. The song won third place from the jury. It is one of the most famous songs ever written about the town of Bitola and the lyrics are about Bitola's old traditions. "Ako odam vo Bitola" is used in making many documentaries and music events dedicated to Bitola.
