Mabe, Perranarworthal And St Gluvias (electoral Division)
Mabe, Perranarworthal and St Gluvias ( Cornish: ) was an electoral division of Cornwall in the United Kingdom which returned one member to sit on Cornwall Council between 2013 and 2021. It was abolished at the 2021 local elections, being succeeded by Mylor, Perranarworthal and Ponsanooth and Constantine, Mabe and Mawnan. Councillors Extent Mabe, Perranarworthal and St Gluvias represented the villages of Perranarworthal, Ponsanooth, St Gluvias and Mabe as well as the hamlets of Church Town, Trenoweth, Antron and Burnthouse. Cornwall Council ( kw, Konsel Kernow) is the unitary authority for Cornwall in the United Kingdom, not including the Isles of Scilly, which has its own unitary council. The 2017 Cornwall Council election was held on 4 May 2017 as part of the 2017 local elections in the United Kingdom. 122 councillors were elected from the 121 electoral divisions of Cornwall Council, which returned either one or two councillors each by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office. Although originally scheduled to take place on the same day, the election in the Bodmin St Petroc ward was countermanded following the death of Liberal Democrat candidate Steve Rogerson and was held on 8 June. Penryn Campus (formerly Tremough Campus, Cornwall Campus and similar names) is a university campus in Penryn, Cornwall, England, UK. Mabe (variant: ''La Vabe'', kw, Lannvab) is a village and civil parish in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The village is situated one mile (1.6 km) west of Penryn. Mabe parish is bounded by Stithians and Ponsanooth to the north, Budock to the east, Mawnan and Constantine to the south and Wendron to the west. Mabe parish is twinned with the Breton town of Primelin. St Gluvias
St Gluvias is a settlement in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The village is now a suburb on the northern edge of Penryn which is northwest of Falmouth. Until 1 April 2021 there was civil parish was called St Gluvias which doesn't include the suburb but it was renamed to Ponsanooth. Church history The historic parish church of St Gluvias, dedicated to Gluvias of Cornwall (or Gluviacus) serves the Church of England parish of St Gluvias with Penryn. Gluvias of Cornwall was the son of Gwynllyw the warrior, King of Gwentlog, and a nephew of St Petroc. The church was founded in the 6th century and the parish was in the Middle Ages sometimes called Behethlan or Bohelland. In 1881 the church was in a dilapidated state and in need of thorough repair. It was rebuilt by J. P. St Aubyn in 1883 although the medieval tower survived and is built of blocks of granite. The church contains the brass of Thomas Kyllygrewe, c. 1485. Ponsanooth
Ponsanooth ( kw, Pons an Woodh, meaning "bridge at the stream") is a village and civil parish in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is about four miles southeast of Redruth and two and a half miles northwest of Penryn on the A393 road Redruth to Falmouth road. In 2019 it had an estimated population of 1184. The church of St Michael and All Angels is now part of a larger benefice, sharing a single vicar with Mabe. Also the village has a shop which includes a post office, village hall, primary school and a public house called The Stag Hunt The River Kennall runs nearby: in the 19th century, this river worked a flour mill and a number of gunpowder mills, machinery at a foundry, and a paper mill.
