Maa (1952 Film)
''Maa'' (Mother) is a 1952 Indian Hindi-language social family drama directed by Bimal Roy for Bombay Talkies. Bimal Roy was asked to come to Bombay from Calcutta to direct the film for the studio, which was going through bad times. Bombay Talkies' earlier favourite Leela Chitnis was cast in the eponymous role of Mother. This was the first film Roy directed in Bombay. Later, he was to break away and form his own production company: Bimal Roy Productions. The first film he produced and directed under his new banner was ''Do Bigha Zameen'' (1953), the next year. The cinematographer was Josef Wirsching. The film's music was composed by S. K. Pal with lyrics by Bharat Vyas. The film co-starred Bharat Bhushan, Shyama, Nazir Hussain, Mehmood and B. M. Vyas. Bimal Roy
Bimal Roy (12 July 1909 – 8 January 1966) was an Indian film director. He is particularly noted for his realistic and socialistic films such as ''Do Bigha Zamin'', ''Parineeta (1953 film), Parineeta'', ''Biraj Bahu'', ''Devdas (1955 film), Devdas'', ''Madhumati'', ''Sujata (1959 film), Sujata'', ''Parakh (1960 film), Parakh'' and ''Bandini (1963 film), Bandini'', making him an important director of Bollywood, Hindi cinema. Inspired by Italian neorealism, Italian neo-realistic cinema, he made ''Do Bigha Zamin'' after watching Vittorio De Sica's'' Bicycle Thieves'' (1948). Achala Sachdev
Achala Sachdev (3 May 1920 – 30 April 2012) was an Indian actress who appeared in classic films of Hindi language film industry. She was from Peshawar and started her career as a child actor. She later became known for mother and grandmother roles in Hindi films. Her most memorable roles were as Balraj Sahni's wife in '' Waqt'' (1965) and Kajol's grandmother in ''Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'' (1995). ''Maa'' is the eighth album of Finland, Finnish a cappella ensemble Rajaton released in 2007 in celebration of the ensemble's 10th anniversary. ''Maa'', is a Finnish word which, depending on context, can be translated to mean ''country'', ''earth'', ''land'', ''ground'' or ''soil''. The name is in reference to the 'back to the roots' nature of the album - Rajaton's debut album, ''Nova (Rajaton album), Nova'', similarly consisted of songs composed to Finnish poetry. A new a cappella version of the Jean Sibelius orchestral piece ''Valse triste (Sibelius), Valse triste'' is also included, marking the 50th anniversary of his death.
