Ma'ayan HaChinuch HaTorani
The Ma'ayan HaChinuch HaTorani ( he, מעיין החינוך התורני) is an education network in Israel, founded in 1984 by the Sephardi Rabbi Ovadia Yosef for the purpose of providing a religious Torah education to the Sephardi community. Rabbi Yosef served as the head of the organization until his death. It currently operates 130 schools throughout Israel. Ovadia Yosef
Ovadia Yosef ( he, , Ovadya Yosef, ; September 24, 1920 – October 7, 2013) was an Iraqi-born Talmudic scholar, a posek, the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel from 1973 to 1983, and a founder and long-time spiritual leader of Israel's ultra-Orthodox Shas party. Yosef's responsa were highly regarded within Haredi circles, particularly among Mizrahi communities, among whom he was regarded as "the most important living halakhic authority". Biography Early life Yosef was born in Baghdad, Ottoman Iraq, to Yaakov Ben Ovadia and his wife, Gorgia. In 1924, when he was four years old, he immigrated to Jerusalem, Mandatory Palestine, with his family. In Palestine, the family adopted the surname "Ovadia". Torah
The Torah (; hbo, ''Tōrā'', "Instruction", "Teaching" or "Law") is the compilation of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, namely the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Rabbi Yitzhak Cohen (, born 2 October 1951) is an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Shas in two spells between 1996 to 2020. He also held several ministerial portfolios. Biography Born in Ashkelon, Cohen served on the city's council, and was its former deputy mayor. He served as Secretary-General of Shas' educational institution (El HaMa'ayan). The education system in Israel consists of three tiers: primary education (grades 1–6, approximately ages 6–12), middle school (grades 7–9, approximately ages 12–15) and high school (grades 10–12, approximately ages 15–19).
