MS Thorbjørn
MS ''Thorbjørn'' (call sign LILU) is a vessel owned by Workers' Youth League (Norway), AUF. During AUFs annual summer camp on the island of Utøya, the vessel shuttles the participants between Utøya and Utøykaia on the mainland. The vessel was built at Oskarshamn Shipyard in 1948. It was previously called ''Rasmus'' and was bought by AUF in 1997 for (approx. in April 1997). It was later renamed ''Thorbjørn'' after Thorbjørn Jagland, a former AUF leader who later became Prime Minister of Norway. The ferry is certified for 50 passengers and can carry small vehicles. History Before the vessel was converted into a civilian passenger ferry, it was a military landing craft of the Landing Craft L-50, L-50-type. These landing crafts were used by the Swedish Navy and the Swedish Coastal Artillery from the 1950s to the 1980s. Thorbjørn Jagland
Thorbjørn Jagland ( né Johansen; , 5 November 1950) is a Norwegian politician from the Labour Party. He served as the secretary general of the Council of Europe from 2009 to 2019. He served as the prime minister of Norway from 1996 to 1997, as the minister of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2001 and as the president of the Storting from 2005 to 2009. Jagland studied economics at the University of Oslo at introductory level, but did not graduate. He started his political career in the Workers' Youth League, which he led from 1977 to 1981. The 202nd Coastal Ranger Company (, or , KJ) is a marine commando (special operations capable) unit within the Swedish Amphibious Corps, which is the infantry component of the Swedish Navy. History The embryo for the formation of the coastal rangers began with a discussion at the Coastal Artillery Club () on 4 December 1950. The introductory speech about commandos was made by Captain Bertil Stjernfelt. During the evening, three Swedish officers with war experience told the demands that should be placed on Swedish commandos. The 2011 Norway attacks, also called 22 July () or 22/7 in Norway, were two domestic terrorism, domestic terrorist attacks by far-right politics, far-right extremist Anders Behring Breivik against the politics of Norway, government, the civilian population, and a Workers' Youth League (Norway), Workers' Youth League (AUF) summer camp, in which a total of 77 people were killed. The first attack was a car bomb explosion in Oslo within Regjeringskvartalet, the executive government quarter of Norway, at 15:25:22 (Central European Summer Time, CEST). Anders Behring Breivik
Anders Behring Breivik (; born 13 February 1979), officially named Fjotolf Hansen from 2017 to 2025, and Far Skaldigrimmr Rauskjoldr av Northriki since March 2025, is a Norwegian neo-Nazi terrorist and mass murderer. He carried out the 2011 Norway attacks in which he killed eight people by detonating a van bomb at Regjeringskvartalet in Oslo, and then killed 69 participants of a Workers' Youth League (AUF) summer camp, in a mass shooting on the island of Utøya. After Breivik was found psychologically competent to stand trial, his criminal trial was held in 2012. That year, Breivik was found guilty of mass murder, causing a fatal explosion, and terrorism. The Swedish Coastal Artillery () has its origin in the Archipelago Artillery that was raised in 1866. The Coastal Artillery was formed from the Archipelago Artillery, the Marine Regiment and parts of the Artillery in 1902. The Landing Craft L-50 was a mechanized landing craft used by the Swedish Navy and the Swedish Coastal Artillery from the 1950s to the 1980s.
