MLS Pool
Major League Soccer has a set of emergency goalkeepers who are signed to a contract with the league and are loaned to teams during emergencies in which they are missing a goalkeeper due to injuries or suspensions. The pool goalkeeper trains with an MLS club or an affiliated team when not assigned to a team; some pool goalkeepers, including Tim Melia, have gone on to be signed to permanent contract with their assigned teams. When originally created, the league had several goalkeepers on their pool roster as roster sizes were small (around 20 players), with teams commonly only having two goalkeepers signed to the roster. However, MLS rosters have since increased to include up to 30 players and teams are required to carry three goalkeepers. Major League Soccer (MLS) is a men's professional soccer league sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation, which represents the sport's highest level in the United States. The league comprises 29 teams—26 in the U.S. and 3 in Canada—since the 2023 season. The league is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. Major League Soccer is the most recent in a series of men's premier professional national soccer leagues established in the United States and Canada. The predecessor of MLS was the North American Soccer League (NASL), which existed from 1968 until 1984. The 2005 Major League Soccer season was the tenth season of Major League Soccer. The season began on April 2, 2005, and concluded on November 13, 2005 with the first Supporters' Shield victory for the San Jose Earthquakes and a second MLS Cup victory for the Los Angeles Galaxy. 2009 Major League Soccer Season
The 2009 Major League Soccer season was the 14th season of Major League Soccer. The season began on March 19 and ended with MLS Cup 2009 on November 22 at Qwest Field in Seattle. Expansion team Seattle Sounders FC debuted as the league's 15th franchise and were the second in MLS history to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. Real Salt Lake won their first MLS Cup by defeating the Los Angeles Galaxy in a penalty shootout. Kenny Schoeni (born January 4, 1984, in Cincinnati, Ohio) is a retired American soccer player. Career Youth and College Schoeni attended Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, Ohio before going to play college soccer at Vanderbilt University from 2003 to 2006, when the Commodores soccer program was discontinued. He finished his undergraduate degree in neuroscience at Vanderbilt and transferred to University of California, Irvine for his final year of eligibility, while attending graduate school. Boris Pardo (born 22 March 1984) is an American soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for the San Diego Sockers. Career Club career Pardo started his career with Canadian side Toronto FC. David Monsalve
David Andrés Monsalve (born December 21, 1988) is a Canadian former professional soccer player who played as a goalkeeper and who currently serves as goalkeeper coach for Toronto FC II. Club career Toronto FC He was brought in during the 2007 season by Toronto FC as an injury relief player, as he was signed as an MLS Pool goalkeeper. Monsalve made his MLS and professional debut on July 29 against the Chicago Fire. He is one of the youngest goalkeepers to play a game in the MLS.
