Swartkops
Swartkops is a village in Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The location is on the Swartkops River, 11 km north of Port Elizabeth and 1,6 km from the Indian Ocean. ''Swartkops'' means "black hills" in Afrikaans, and the name is said to refer to surrounding hillocks crested with dark shadows. Despatch, Eastern Cape
Despatch is a small town in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa situated between Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage with an estimated population of 40 000. It forms part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality which includes Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage, and has collectively a population of over 1.3 million. History The town of Despatch is situated on rich clay soil and in the late 1800s was the site of a flourishing brick industry. Despatch's name derives from this brick industry history on the account that bricks were dispatched from the original railway siding. Many of the older buildings in Uitenhage and Port Elizabeth were built from these bricks. Most of these early bricks can be identified by the word 'Despatch' imprinted on the top and bottom of the brick. Uitenhage ( ; ), officially renamed Kariega, is a South African town in the Eastern Cape Province. It is well known for the Volkswagen factory located there, which is the biggest car factory on the African continent. Along with the city of Port Elizabeth and the small town of Despatch, it forms the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality. History Uitenhage was founded on 25 April 1804 by ''landdrost'' (district magistrate) Jacob Glen Cuyler and named in honour of the Cape's Commissioner-General Jacob Abraham Uitenhage de Mist by the Dutch Cape Colony governor, Jan Willem Janssens. Metropolitan Routes In Port Elizabeth
Port Elizabeth, like most South African cities, uses Metropolitan or "M" routes for important intra-city routes, a layer below National (N) roads and Regional (R) roads. Each city's M roads are independently numbered. These roads naturally interact with Port Elizabeth's N and R roads. The N2 enters Port Elizabeth from the west before veering north when it reaches the coastline of Algoa Bay. The R102 roughly parallels the N2, but runs further south, into the city centre before turning north. The R75 leaves the R102 as it begins leaving the city centre from the north, and heads in a roughly north-west direction towards Uitenhage. It then veers north skirting the town centre and continuing on towards Graaff-Reinet. R102 Road (South Africa)
The R102 is a Regional Route in South Africa. It is the route designation for all old sections of the N2, thus it is a discontinuous road that resumes in areas where a new N2 has been constructed. Route Western Cape and Eastern Cape In the Cape Town area, the R102 starts in the Central Business District and runs through Woodstock, Maitland, Goodwood and Parow before it reaches Bellville. From Bellville, it turns in a southeasterly direction and goes on the outskirts of the city through Kuils River, Eerste River and onwards to Somerset West where it merges with the existing N2. At Mossel Bay it divides to the east again, passing through all the towns between there and George. Redhouse, Eastern Cape
Redhouse is a small village in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, located to the north of the city of Port Elizabeth. It is adjacent to a declared wetland reserve, soon hopefully to be a Ramsar site. The village is situated on the Zwartkops River, and is host to the Redhouse Yacht Club. The R75 is a provincial route in Eastern Cape, South Africa that connects Graaff-Reinet with Gqeberha via Despatch, Kariega and Jansenville. Route Nelson Mandela Bay The R75 begins at the intersection with the R102 (Govan Mbeki Road) in Sydenham, just north of the Gqeberha city centre as a dual-carriage roadway and heads in a north-westerly direction as ''Commercial Road''. It intersects with the N2 highway in the suburb of Korsten and after crossing the N2, it becomes ''Uitenhage Road''. It passes through the large township of Ibhayi before leaving the built up area of Gqeberha (previously known as Port Elizabeth) and intersecting with the M19 metropolitan route at an interchange south-east of Despatch, adjacent to the Azalea Park suburb.
