M-75 (Michigan Highway)
M-75 is a segment of state trunkline highway located in Charlevoix County in the U.S. state of Michigan. This highway serves as a loop off US Highway 131 (US 131), providing access to Boyne City. The highway happens to be geographically close to Interstate 75 (I-75), but they are not related. Route description M-75 begins in downtown Boyne Falls at an intersection with US 131. It follows Mill Street northwesterly out of town, passing to the north of a lake and the Boyne Mountain Airport. The airport property ends at the intersection with C-48 west of Boyne Falls. M-75 runs parallel to the Boyne River until it turns west near the Boyne City Municipal Airport to enter the community of Boyne City on East Division Street. Boyne Falls, Michigan
Boyne Falls is a village in Charlevoix County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 358 at the 2020 census. The village is located within Boyne Valley Township. History Boyne Falls was first settled with the coming of the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad in 1874. In that year, A. D. Carpenter built the first store. A post office opened in Boyne Falls on September 5, 1874 with William Nelson serving as the first postmaster. The community was named by John Miller after the Boyne River, which has a nearby set of waterfalls. The name itself came from another river in Ireland. The community incorporated as a village in 1893. The railway line is now operated by the Great Lakes Central Railroad, although the station in Boyne Falls has been closed since 1973. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is a constitutional government principal department of the US state of Michigan. Gaylord is a city in and the county seat of Otsego County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Gaylord had a population of 4,286 at the 2020 census, an increase from 3,645 at the 2010 census. M-57 is an east–west state trunkline highway in the US state of Michigan. The highway connects US Highway 131 (US 131) near Rockford on the west end to M-15 near Otisville in the Lower Peninsula. In between, the mostly rural highway passes through farmland and connects several highways and smaller towns together. Three of these highways are freeways: US 131, US 127 and Interstate 75 (I-75). Walloon Lake
Walloon Lake is a glacier-formed lake located in Charlevoix and Emmet counties, just southwestward from the northern tip of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. It is now home to many vacation homes and cottages. Though the end of the west arm of the lake is less than from Lake Michigan, Walloon Lake's surface elevation is over higher. The Bear River drains from the east end of the lake in Walloon Lake village, winding east then north down to its outflow into Lake Michigan at the south end of Petoskey. Walloon Lake is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Charlevoix County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population of the CDP was 271 at the 2020 census. The community is located within Melrose Township. As an unincorporated community, Walloon Lake has no legal autonomy of its own but does have its own post office with the 49796 ZIP Code. History John Jones, Jr. and his family first settled in the area as early as 1872 along the shores of Bear Lake (now known as Walloon Lake).
