M. M. S. Abul Hassan (died 19 January 2001) was an Indian politician and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Mayuram constituency as an Indian National Congress candidate in 1991 election, and as Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) candidate in 1996 election. Hassan died on 19 January 2001. A Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is a representative elected by the voters of an electoral district (constituency) to the legislature of State government in the Indian system of government. From each constituency, the people elect one representative who then becomes a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Each state has between seven and nine MLAs for every Member of Parliament (MP) that it has in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of India's bicameral parliament. There are also members in three unicameral legislatures in Union Territories: the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and the Puducherry Legislative Assembly. The Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) (; TMC(M)) is an Indian Regionalism (politics), regional political party in the Federated state, state of Tamil Nadu. It is founded by the former Member of Parliament (India), Member of Parliament of the Republic of India G. K. Moopanar on 29 March 1996 as a breakaway faction from the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. G.K. Vasan, G.K Vaasan, the son of the founder G.K Moopanar, was chosen to lead the party in 2002 by the party's officials after the death of Moopanar. TMC was merged with Congress from 2002 to 2014.
