M. Elizabeth Magill
Mary Elizabeth Magill (born 1965) is the 9th president of the University of Pennsylvania, a position she has held since July 1, 2022. She was the provost (education), provost of the University of Virginia and a professor at the University of Virginia School of Law from 2019 to 2022. She was dean of Stanford Law School from 2012 to 2019. Early life and education A native of North Dakota, Magill is the daughter of Frank J. Magill, Frank Magill, a senior United States federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Her brother, Frank Magill Jr., is a District Judge in Minnesota's Fourth Judicial District. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Yale University in 1988 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1995.
