Saint-John Perse
Alexis Leger (; 31 May 1887 – 20 September 1975), better known by his pseudonym Saint-John Perse (; also Saint-Leger Leger), was a French poet-diplomat, awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1960 "for the soaring flight and evocative imagery of his poetry." He was a major French diplomat from 1914 to 1940, after which he lived primarily in the United States until 1967. Early life Alexis Leger was born in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe. His great-grandfather, a solicitor, had settled in Guadeloupe in 1815. His grandfather and father were also solicitors; his father was also a member of the city council. The Leger family owned two plantations, one of coffee (La Joséphine) and the other of sugar (Bois-Debout). Walter John Leger III, known as Walt Leger (born June 22, 1978; surname pronounced ''leh-ZHAY''), was Speaker pro tempore of the Louisiana House of Representatives and the representative for District 91, which includes Central City, Uptown, the Lower Garden District, the Irish Channel, parts of Broadmoor, Gert Town, and Hollygrove in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Léger received a B.A. and a B.Ed. from the Université de Moncton, and an M.F.A. (Theater Education) from Boston University. Urbain-Louis-Eugène Léger (7 September 1866 – 7 July 1948) was a French zoologist who was a specialist on aquatic protists, fish parasites, and fish farming. He served as a professor of zoology at Grenoble. Léger was born in Loches, son of a school teacher. He grew up in Touraine and went to the University of Poitiers where he studied under Aimé Schneider, receiving a doctorate for studies on gregarines. He then worked in Marseilles and studied medicine, receiving a medical degree in 1895 for studies on arteries in the aged. He became a lecturer at Grenoble in 1898 and became a full professor in 1904. Léger's researches included work on the Gregarinida in collaboration with Octave Duboscq. He served as Archbishop of Montreal from 1950 to 1967, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1953 by Pope Pius XII. Early life and education Paul-Émile Léger was born April 26, 1904 in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec to Ernest Léger, a general merchant, and Alda Beauvais. He grew up in Saint-Anicet, where he served as an altar boy with his brother, Jules, and attended elementary school. He studied at Petit Séminaire de Sainte-Thérèse from 1916 to 1925, which was interrupted due to illness for almost four years beginning in January 1920.
