Lázaro Bruzón
Lázaro Bruzón Batista (born 2 May 1982 in Holguín) is a Cuban-American chess grandmaster. He is a former World Junior Champion, two-times American Continental champion, two-time Iberoamerican champion and five-time Cuban champion. Bruzón played for Cuba at the Chess Olympiads between 2000 and 2014. Career He won the World Junior Chess Championship in 2000. This achievement qualified him for the FIDE World Chess Championship 2002. Bruzón won the Lausanne Young Masters, a knockout event, in 2001 by defeating Étienne Bacrot in the final. Later that year, at the end of November, he competed in the FIDE World Championship: after defeating Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu in the first round, he was knocked out by Kiril Georgiev. Tata Steel Chess Tournament
The Tata Steel Chess Tournament is an annual chess tournament held in January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. It was called the Hoogovens Tournament from its creation in 1938 until the sponsor Koninklijke Hoogovens merged with British Steel to form the Corus Group in 1999, after which the tournament was called the Corus Chess Tournament. Corus Group became Tata Steel Europe in 2007. Despite the name changes, the series is numbered sequentially from its Hoogovens beginnings; for example, the 2011 event was referred to as the 73rd Tata Steel Chess Tournament. Top grandmasters compete in the tournament, but regular club players are welcome to play as well. Artyom Timofeev (russian: Артём Тимофеев; born January 6, 1985) is a Russian chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2003. Timofeev was born in Kazan. He, Zahar Efimenko and Andrei Volokitin tied for first place in the Under 14 section of the World Youth Chess Championships in 1999; Timofeev finished second on tiebreak. The next year, he won the Under 18 division of the European Youth Chess Championships. Timofeev tied for first with Evgeniy Najer, Kaido Külaots, Zoltan Gyimesi, Sergey Grigoriants and Oleg Korneev at the Cappelle-la-Grande Open of 2004, finishing third on tiebreak. Zhang Pengxiang (; born 29 June 1980 in Tianjin) is a Chinese chess grandmaster and the 2007 Asian Chess Champion. In 2001, he became China's 12th Grandmaster. Evgeny Ilgizovich Bareev (russian: Евгений Ильгизович Бареев; born 21 November 1966) is a Russian-Canadian chess player and trainer. Awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 1989, he was ranked fourth in the FIDE world rankings in October 2003, with an Elo rating of 2739. Chess career Bareev was world under 16 champion in 1982. Alexander Onischuk
Alexander Onischuk (; born September 3, 1975) is a Ukrainian-American chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1994, and won the 2006 U.S. championship. Career In 1991 Onischuk finished second in the world under 16 championship and in 1993 he was fourth in the world junior championship, tying for first and finished second on tie-breaks two years later. In 2000 he won the Ukrainian Championship. He represented Ukraine in the Chess Olympiad in 1994, 1996 and 1998. Onischuk immigrated to the United States in 2001. The Chess World Cup 2005 served as a qualification tournament for the FIDE World Chess Championship 2007. It was held as a 128-player tournament from 27 November to 17 December 2005 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. The top ten finishers qualified for the candidates matches of the World Chess Championship 2007.
