Lyse Abbey
Lyse Abbey or Saint Mary's Abbey, Lyse ( no, Lyse kloster, Lyse Mariakloster) is a now-ruined Cistercian monastery in Bjørnafjorden Municipality in Vestland county in south-western Norway. The name "Lyse" is derived from Lysefjorden near which the building stood. The abbey lies at the southern base of the Lyshornet mountain. Pre-Reformation Lyse Abbey was founded in 1146 by Sigurd, Bishop of the Ancient Diocese of Bergen, on farmland that he owned, as the Christianisation of Norway was nearing completion. The first monks were brought from Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire, England. This was the first Cistercian monastery in Norway and was modelled on others built in England and France. As with all Cistercians, the monks took a vow of poverty. Renouncing all sources of income except from farming, they developed considerable skill in farming operations and management. Lysebotn
Lysebotn is a village in Sandnes municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The village is located at the eastern end of the Lysefjorden in a very isolated valley that is only accessible by one road or by boat. The name itself means the "bottom ndof the Lysefjorden". It's a destination for over 100,000 tourists annually, and it is an access point for the Kjerag mountain, a popular Base Jumping spot. There are cruises and an express boat to Lysebotn from Skagenkaien in the city of Stavanger, Lauvvik in Sandnes, and the village of Forsand. All of which pass beneath the famous Preikestolen cliff on the way to Lysebotn. Lyse Chapel, built in 1961, is found at Lysebotn. Lysebotn at one time had its own school, but that is now closed. Łyse, Masovian Voivodeship
Łyse is a village in Poland, situated in the Masovian Voivodeship, in Ostrołęka County, and in Gmina Łyse, by the road 645 between Myszyniec and Nowogród. It lies approximately north of Ostrołęka and north of Warsaw. In the years 1975–1998, Łyse belonged to the Ostrołęka Voivodeship. Character The village is a center of Kurpiowski folk art with a 19th-century wooden church that has a polychrome interior. Mass is held in this church only on special occasions; regular mass has been held in the nearby modern church, Chrystusa Króla Wszechświata, since dedication in 2000. The village has the lowest unemployment rate in Ostrołęka County, due in no small part to the local meat packing industry. In Greek mythology, Lyse (Ancient Greek: Λύση means 'loosing, releasing, ransoming') was a Thespian princess as one of the 50 daughters of King Thespius and Megamede, daughter of Arneus Apollodorus, 2.4.10; Tzetzes, ''Chiliades'' 2.222 (or by one of his many wives Diodorus Siculus, 4.29.2). She bore Eumedes to the hero Heracles. Mythology When the Cithaeronian lion was harassing the kine of Thespius, the latter asked Herakles to kill the lion. The son of Zeus hunted it for fifty days and finally slayed the beast. Lyse Marie Doucet , (; born 24 December 1958) is a Canadian journalist who is the BBC's Chief International Correspondent and senior presenter. Lyse Richer (born September 11, 1939) is a Canadian administrator and teacher of music. She taught piano at both the École de musique Vincent-d'Indy and the Université de Montréal. Richer later took on administrative roles in the management of several Quebec dance and theatre companies in the 1970s and the 1980s. She gave lectures and papers and conferences and was the authors of multiple entries on Canadian composers. Early life and education On 11 September 1939, Richer was born in Montreal.
