Lyonel Feininger
Lyonel Charles Feininger (July 17, 1871January 13, 1956) was a German-American painter, and a leading exponent of Expressionism. He also worked as a caricaturist and comic strip artist. He was born and grew up in New York City, traveling to Germany at 16 to study and perfect his art. He started his career as a cartoonist in 1894 and met with much success in this area. He was also a commercial caricaturist for 20 years for magazines and newspapers in the USA and Germany. At the age of 36, he started to work as a fine artist. He also produced a large body of photographic works between 1928 and the mid 1950s, but he kept these primarily within his circle of friends. He was also a pianist and composer, with several piano compositions and fugues for organ extant. James Keeley
James Keeley (October 14, 1867 – June 7, 1934) was an American newspaper editor and publisher. Clara Fürst
Clara Fürst (15 February 1879 in Berlin – 1944 in Auschwitz) was a concert pianist. Daughter of the painter she was the first wife of a German-American painter, and leading exponent of Expressionism, Lyonel Feininger. The Fürst family hailed originally from Hungary from where they had migrated to Germany and settled in Frankfurt/Oder. Personal life In 1900, Clara Fürst met Lyonel Feininger in Berlin through her brother Edmund Fürst (1874–1955), who, like Lyonel Feininger had studied at the Berlin Art Academy for several years. They married in 1901, and they had two daughters. In 1905 they separated. The first-born of these daughters was the photographer and artist (born 1901) who began her photographic activities in the studio of Karl Schenker in Berlin. Along with the ''Frankfurter Zeitung'', it became one of the most important liberal German newspapers of its time. The book consists of a prologue, 112 brief satires, and an epilogue, all illustrated with woodcuts. Brant takes up the ship of fools trope, popular at the time, lashing with unsparing vigour the weaknesses and vices of his time. Filippo Colarossi (21 April 1841 in Picinisco – August 1906) was an Italian artist's model and sculptor who founded the Académie Colarossi in Paris between 1879–1880. He is claimed to have died on 25 August 1906 in Paris. however, Duval states that Colarossi died poor and alone in August 1906 in a little town near Naples. Émile-Bayard reports that Colarossi and his wife (unidentified/unconfirmed second wife; the first had died in 1896), having profited from the sale of a building plot in 1916, retired to Picinisco, his natal village, where they presumably stayed until their deaths. Fuss Amoré and des Ombiaux also maintain that Colarossi returned to Italy.
