Lyona is an unincorporated community in Liberty Township, Dickinson County, Kansas, United States. It is located on Wolf Rd approximately southwest of Junction City or north of Herington, also it is west of the Rock Springs 4-H Camp. History Lyona once had a post office; it closed in 1888. Herington, Kansas
Herington is a city in Dickinson and Morris counties in the U.S. state of Kansas. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,109. History 19th century Herington was named after its founder, Monroe Davis Herington. His name at birth was Davis Monroe Herrington, but he later dropped the second "r" from his last name. The first post office in Herington was established in February 1884. In 1887, Mr. Herington successfully got the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railway to build through Herington. He gave the land and right-of-way for Herington to become a division point with shops, two round houses, freight house, bridge yards, telegraph office and many other buildings. Junction City is a city in and the county seat of Geary County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 22,932. Fort Riley, a major U.S. Army post, is nearby. History Junction City is so named from its position at the confluence of the Smoky Hill and Republican rivers, which forms the Kansas River. In 1854, Andrew J. Mead of New York of the Cincinnati-Manhattan Company, Free Staters connected to the Massachusetts Emigrant Aid Company planned a community there called Manhattan (there was also a discussion to call it New Cincinnati).
