Lynn McCafferty
Lynn McCafferty (born 16 April 1979) is a British handball player, born in Coatbridge. She has played for the British national team, and competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Early life McCafferty was born in Coatbridge on 16 April 1979, and grew up in the North Lanarkshire town of Cumbernauld, part of the Glasgow metropolitan area in Scotland. She attended Our Lady's High School in Cumbernauld, which was also attended by Scotland footballer and fellow 2012 Olympian Ifeoma Dieke. Career McCafferty began playing handball at the age of ten, when she joined the Tryst 77 handball club in Cumbernauld. After progressing through the club's ranks, she was selected for the first team at the age of fifteen, making her debut in the now-defunct British League. In August 2006, McCafferty left Cumbernauld and moved to Denmark, together with four male Tryst 77 players including husband Gary McCafferty. Coatbridge
Coatbridge ( sco, Cotbrig or Coatbrig, gd, Drochaid a' Chòta) is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, about east of Glasgow city centre, set in the central Lowlands. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. Handball At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's handball tournament at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held from 28 July to 11 August. The preliminaries and quarter-finals were held at the Copper Box and the semi-finals and final took place at the Basketball Arena. Twelve nations were represented in the tournament. The four best teams from each group advanced to a knockout round, while the 5th and 6th teams in each group were classified 9th–12th by the results of their group matches. Unlike in previous Olympics, there was no placement matches involving the losing teams of the quarterfinals. Norway won the tournament and gold medal, beating Montenegro in the final. Montenegro's silver was the first Olympic medal for the country as an independent nation, and the country's only medal at the 2012 Games. Spain won the bronze medal. The Montenegro women's national handball team is the national team of Montenegro. It is governed by the Handball Federation of Montenegro and takes part in international handball competitions. The Copper Box Arena is a multi-sport venue built for the 2012 Summer Olympics, located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, England. The National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace in south London, England is a large sports centre and outdoor athletics stadium.
