''Lying Lips'' is a 1921 American silent drama film directed by John Griffith Wray and starring House Peters, Florence Vidor, and Joseph Kilgour. Produced by the independent producer Thomas H. Ince for the short-lived Associated Producers company, the film was a financial success, grossing $446,000 against a budget of $263,000. It is based on a story by the British writer May Edginton. Synopsis An English aristocrat, Nancy Abbott, is engaged to be married to William Chase, but before her wedding she visits Canada where she falls in love with Blair Cornwall, a rancher. On her return to London, she faces the difficulty of reconciling her love against fears of hardship. John Griffith Wray
John Griffith Wray (August 30, 1881 – July 15, 1929) was an American stage actor and director who later became a noted Hollywood silent film director. He worked on 19 films between 1913 and 1929 that included ''Anna Christie'' (1923) and ''Human Wreckage'' (1923), Dorothy Davenport's story about her husband Wallace Reid's drug addiction and death. Biography Wray was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and died in Los Angeles, California. By 1912 Wray was a leading actor and stage director with the World's Fair Stock Company's yearlong Hawaiian tour. He married actress Virginia Brissac in Santa Ana, California, on June 29, 1915, and became the step-father of screenwriter Ardel Wray. The couple divorced in 1927. Margaret Campbell (April 24, 1883 – June 27, 1939) was an American character actress in silent films. In her later years she was the secretary of the Baháʼí Spiritual Assembly of Los Angeles. Career Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Campbell was the leading lady of the Bramhall Players. She appeared on Broadway in ''Lightnin (1918), ''Keeping Up Appearances'' (1918), ''The Silent Assertion'' (1917), ''Difference in Gods'' (1917), ''Keeping Up Appearances'' (1916), ''The Merchant of Venice'' (1913), ''Hamlet'' (1912), and ''Kassa'' (1909). Emmett Carleton King (May 31, 1865 – April 21, 1953) was an American actor of the stage and screen. Biography King began his acting career on stage. His first Broadway appearance was in 1899, in the farce, ''The Father of His Country'', which he wrote and starred in. He would appear in several more Broadway productions over the next 15 years, including ''Mary Jane's Pa'' in 1908–09, and the 1911 production of Ben-Hur.
