Lycksele (; sma, Liksjoe; Ume Sami language, Ume Sami: ) is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Lycksele Municipality in Västerbotten County, provinces of Sweden, province of Lapland (Sweden), Lapland, Sweden with 8,513 inhabitants in 2010. History Lycksele is the oldest lasting Sami people, Sami settlement in Swedish Lappland. The first Sámi school (Sweden), Swedish Sami school, ''Skytteanska skolan'', was built here in 1634. Lycksele was the first place in Swedish Lappland to be designated a cities of Sweden, city in 1946, hence its nickname "Lapp-Stockholm". Lycksele is, despite its small population, for historical reasons normally still called a Stad (Sweden), ''city'' (stad). Lycksele Municipality
Lycksele Municipality (; sma, Liksjoe tjïelte; sju, Liksjuon kommuvdna) is a municipalities of Sweden, municipality in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden. Its administrative centre, seat is located in Lycksele. The municipality traces its history to Lycksele parish, which was in effect during the 19th century with very similar borders and size (5,000-5,500 km²). The whole rural municipality Lycksele became a market town (''köping'') in 1929 and stad (Sweden), city in 1946. In 1971 it was amalgamated with Örträsk Municipality. Generally the northern municipalities, already sparsely populated, have population decreases, but various supporting projects also exist. For instance, a campus of Umeå University is situated here. Sámi School (Sweden)
Sámi schools, which were referred to as ''Nomad schools'' or ''Lapp schools'' before 1977, are a type of school in Sweden that runs parallel to the standard primary school system. Sámi schools are part of the Swedish public school system, and as such are governed by the same curriculum that primary schools are. Sámi schools are state-owned educational institutions that are open to all children whose parents claim to be Sámi. Each school has its own dormitory that many students live in for large parts of the academic year due to the long distances in the north of Sweden. Teaching took place in both Swedish and Sámi, which was also taught separately. The Sámi schools have a small number of students. The schools are located in Karesuando, Lannavaara, Kiruna, Gällivare and Jokkmokk in Norrbotten County and in Tärnaby in Västerbotten County. Västerbotten County ( sv, Västerbottens län) is a county or ''län'' in the north of Sweden. It shares the borders with the counties of Västernorrland, Jämtland, and Norrbotten, as well as the Norwegian county of Nordland and the Gulf of Bothnia. Lapland (Sweden)
Lapland, also known by its Swedish name Lappland (, fi, Lappi, la, Lapponia), is a province in northernmost Sweden. It borders Jämtland, Ångermanland, Västerbotten, Norrbotten, Norway and Finland. Nearly a quarter of Sweden's land area is in Lappland. Lapland originally extended eastward. However, in 1809 the Russian Empire annexed the eastern part of Sweden, and created the Grand Duchy of Finland, which in effect split Lapland into a Swedish part and a Finnish part, both of which still exist today. Andreas Wingerli (born September 11, 1997) is a Swedish professional ice hockey forward. He is currently playing with Skellefteå AIK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Playing career Wingerli as a youth played with hometown club, Lycksele SK, at the under-18 and fourth tier Division.2 level. David Rundblad (born October 8, 1990) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who is currently playing with Kärpät in the Liiga. Rundblad was drafted 17th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He began his NHL career with the Ottawa Senators before being traded to the Phoenix Coyotes. Betsele IF
Betsele IF is a Swedish football club located in Lycksele in Västerbotten County. Background Founded in 1961 Betsele Idrottsförening provides football for women and girls. The club's football ground and clubhouse is located in the village of Ågläntan which is just over a mile from Lycksele. Levi Borgstrom
Levi Petrus Borgstrom (7 November 1919 – 25 July 2001) was a Swedish-New Zealand carver. Early life Borgstrom was born in Lycksele, Sweden in 1919. As a teenager, he began using his father's tools to carve wooden cutlery and crockery and was strongly influenced by Saami and Norrland settler culture. His career was largely focused upon spoon carving. Career In 1951, he moved to New Zealand and began incorporating New Zealand resources into his Scandinavian-influenced works. He used New Zealand and introduced timbers in his works, including kowhai, tanekaha, akeake, rewarewa, manuka, macrocarpa, cherry wood, privet, mangrove, and silky oak. Borgstrom worked by drawing a design on a piece of wood and roughly creating the shape using a Scandinavian bow saw. Fredrik Olof Johan ("Figge") Norling (born 1 May 1965 in Lycksele, Sweden) is a Swedish actor and theatre director. He has been married to the actress Tova Magnusson Norling.
