Lyce Jankowski
Lyce Jankowski (born 1982) is a numismatist, specialising in East Asia, and an art historian, specialising in Chinese material culture. Career Jankowski graduated in Classics (Licence and Maitrise at the Université Paris-Sorbonne), in Chinese (Licence at the Institut National des Langues Orientales, Paris), in Antiquity (Magistère at the Ecole Normale Supérieure) and in Art History (Licence, Master and Doctorat at the Université Paris-Sorbonne). Her studies of the contacts between Imperial Rome and Han China sparked an interest in numismatics. She studied Chinese numismatics with François Thierry (numismatist), curator of the Asian coin collection at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BnF); numismatics at the American Numismatic Society E. Newman seminar; Greek and Roman coinage in Paris with Olivier Picard and Michel Amandry; and Central Asian numismatics with Osmund Bopearachchi. Numismatist (specialist)
A numismatist is a specialist in numismatics ("of coins"; from Late Latin ''numismatis'', genitive of ''numisma''). Numismatists include collectors, specialist dealers, and scholars who use coins and other currency in object-based research. Although use of the term numismatics was first recorded in English in 1799, people had been collecting and studying coins long before this, all over the world. The first group chiefly derives pleasure from the simple ownership of monetary devices and studying these coins as private amateur scholars. In the classical field amateur collector studies have achieved quite remarkable progress in the field. Examples are Walter Breen, a well-known example of a noted numismatist who was not an avid collector, and King Farouk I of Egypt was an avid collector who had very little interest in numismatics. François Thierry (numismatist)
François Thierry de Crussol is a French numismatist, specialising in East Asian currency. (His Chinese name is 蒂埃里 Di Ali). Career Thierry is honorary curator at the Département des Monnaies et Médailles, Bibliothèque nationale de France. Before retirement he was curator of Oriental coins, and a leading scholar in this field, having produced several well-received books, catalogues of the BnF collection, and numerous articles relating to East Asian numismatics. Olivier Picard
Olivier Picard (4 March 1940, Bernay) is a French Hellenist. He was director of the French School at Athens and is a member of the Institut de France. Biography A student at the École normale supérieure (1960), Olivier Picard obtained his agrégation of history in 1964 and became a member of the French School at Athens (1966–1971). He immediately began his academic career at the Paris West University Nanterre La Défense (1971) where he was appointed a professor in 1979. From 1981 until 1992, he was director of the French School at Athens. Back in Nanterre, he quickly was elected at Paris IV-Sorbonne where he directed the graduate school of ancient and medieval history. Michel Amandry
Michel Amandry (born in 1949) is a French numismatist. Career Michel Amandry, the son of the archaeologist Pierre Amandry, studied in Strasbourg and Paris, where in 1979 he received his doctorate at the Sorbonne. From 1991 to September 2013 he was director of the Cabinet des Médailles, the Department of Coins, Medals and Antiquities of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. He also teaches numismatics as 'directeur d'études' in the École pratique des hautes études in Paris. His research focus is the numismatics of the Roman Empire. Osmund Bopearachchi
Osmund Bopearachchi (born 1949) is a Sri Lankan historian and numismatist who has specialized notably standardized the coinage of the Indo-Greek and Greco-Bactrian kingdoms. He is currently Emeritus Director of the CNRS at the École Normale Supérieure and Adjunct Professor of Central and South Asian Art, Archaeology, and Numismatics, University of California, Berkeley. Worcester College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in England. Ashmolean Museum
The Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology () on Beaumont Street, Oxford, England, is Britain's first public museum. Its first building was erected in 1678–1683 to house the cabinet of curiosities that Elias Ashmole gave to the University of Oxford in 1677. The Royal Museum of Mariemont (french: Musée royal de Mariemont) is a museum situated in Mariemont, near Morlanwelz, in Belgium. It is constituted around the personal collection of art and antiquities owned by the industrialist Raoul Warocqué (1870–1917) which were bequeathed to the Belgian state on his death. Museum and collection The museum displays a notable collection of Tournai porcelain and books, as well as antiquities from Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, Judaism and the Christian Near East, and the Far East. In 2012, the museum was expanded by a bequest of Pre-Columbian art from the collection of Yves and Yolande Boël.
