Lybidska (Kyiv Metro)
Lybidska ( uk, Либідська, ) is the 27th station of the Kyiv Metro system that serves the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. The station was opened as part of the Obolonsko–Teremkivska Line on 30 December 1984, located in between the Palats "Ukrayina" and Demiivska stations. The station provides passenger access to Lybdiska Square, under which it is located. It served as the line's southern terminus for 26 years until 2010, when the line was extended to Vasylkivska. After the fall of Soviet Union in the early 1990s, the station was renamed "Lybidska" after a nearby river—Lybid, on 2 February 1993. In 2011, the station has been listed as a "newly discovered object of cultural heritage," and monuments of architecture, town planning, and art. Decommunization In Ukraine
Decommunization in Ukraine started during and after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. With the success of the Revolution of Dignity in 2014, the Ukrainian government approved Ukrainian decommunization laws, laws that outlawed communist symbols. On 15 May 2015, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a set of laws that started a six-month period for the removal of communist monuments (excluding World War II monuments) and renaming of public places named after communist-related themes. At the time, this meant that 22 cities and 44 villages were set to get new names. Until 21 November 2015, municipal governments had the authority to implement this; if they failed to do so, the Oblasts of Ukraine had until 21 May 2016 to change the names. If after that date the settlement had retained its old name, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine would wield authority to assign a new name to the settlement. Bas-relief
Relief is a sculptural method in which the sculpted pieces are bonded to a solid background of the same material. The term ''relief'' is from the Latin verb ''relevo'', to raise. To create a sculpture in relief is to give the impression that the sculpted material has been raised above the background plane. When a relief is carved into a flat surface of stone (relief sculpture) or wood (relief carving), the field is actually lowered, leaving the unsculpted areas seeming higher. The approach requires a lot of chiselling away of the background, which takes a long time. On the other hand, a relief saves forming the rear of a subject, and is less fragile and more securely fixed than a sculpture in the round, especially one of a standing figure where the ankles are a potential weak point, particularly in stone. Nikolai Bartossik ( uk, Микола Григорович Бартосік) (born April 5, 1951) is a Ukrainian-American contemporary painter and monumental artist. Personal background Nikolai Bartossik was born on April 5, 1951, in the Polkivnyche (Ivanky) Mankivka Raion (currently Uman Raion) in Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine. He graduated in 1970, from the Kyiv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Art and Design. In 1975, he graduated from the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. He immigrated to New York in 1995. Tamara Oleksiivna Tselikovska (17 November 1935 – 12 July 2019) was a Ukrainian architect, member of the Union of Architects of Ukraine since 1969, Honored Architect of Ukraine (1995). Biography Tamara Tselikovska was born in 1935 in the city of Yelets, Lipetsk region, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. From 1953 to 1959, she studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute. From 1959 to 1963, Tselikovska worked at the Research Institute of Building Structures of the Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR. Since 1963 Tselikovska has been the architect of the Kyivmetroproekt design institute, the Kyiv branch of the Metrodiprotrans design and survey institute. Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky ( pl, Feliks Dzierżyński ; russian: Фе́ликс Эдму́ндович Дзержи́нский; – 20 July 1926), nicknamed "Iron Felix", was a Bolshevik revolutionary and official, born into Poland, Polish nobility.
