Luzerne is an unincorporated community in Oscoda County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The community is located within Big Creek Township. As an unincorporated community, Luzerne has no legally defined boundaries or population statistics of its own but does have its own post office with the 48636 ZIP Code. Geography The community is centered along M-72 and County Road 489 (Deeter Road) in southwestern Oscoda County about southwest of the community of Mio. It is located within the Huron National Forest about east of the city of Grayling. The community sits at an elevation of above sea level. The East Branch Big Creek, a tributary of the Au Sable River, flows through the community with a small impoundment known as Luzerne Pond along its route. Luzerne is a borough located north of Wilkes Barre in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,703 at the time of the 2020 census. History The community was first settled in 1807. It was later incorporated as a borough in 1882. Like Luzerne County, the borough was named after Chevalier de la Luzerne, a French diplomat. In the early twentieth century, coal mining and manufacturing were the main industries in the community. Ogemaw County ( ') is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 20,770. The county seat is West Branch. The county newspaper of record is the ''Ogemaw Herald''. History Ogemaw County started as part of the Virginia Land owned by England.
