Luxembourg National Rugby Union Team
The Luxembourg national rugby union team is a minor team, and is ranked as a third tier nation. The team participates in the annual Rugby Europe Championship Conference 2 North 2017–18 Rugby Europe Conference. Since 1996 Luxembourg also competes in the sevens circuits in Europe Luxembourg national rugby sevens team. Luxembourg has been a member of FIRA since 1976, two years after the founding of Luxembourg Rugby Federation (French: ''Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Rugby (FLR)''). The Grand Duchy has participated several times in the FIRA championships and, despite the small size, has honourably acquitted itself. Luxembourg has also been a member of the International Rugby Board since 1991. The Luxembourg rugby team is the only national sports team to have been three times champions of their group in a European competition. Stade De Luxembourg
The Stade de Luxembourg is the national stadium of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, located in the Luxembourg City quarter of Gasperich. The stadium is host to Luxembourg's national football and rugby teams and is listed as a Category 4 stadium by UEFA allowing it to host international matches. Construction on the stadium occurred between September 2017 and July 2021, missing the original 2019 target date for completion. On 1 September 2021, the stadium marked its official opening by hosting its first international match between the Luxembourg and Azerbaijan men's football teams as part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The inauguration ceremony for the stadium took place later that month, on 25 September. The Stade de Luxembourg replaces the outdated Josy Barthel stadium, due for demolition. 2002–03 European Nations Cup Third Division
The 2002–2004 European Nations Cup was the fourth edition of the newly reformed European Championship for tier 2 & 3 Rugby Union Nations. This was the second two-year cycled championship, the first to be planned from the start. The Third division had a controversy development. The team were divided into three groups according to the ranking of previous edition to play, but there were several problems: * In pool "A" Andorra withdrew and only four teams remained. * In pool "C" Monaco were banned after the match with Finland, because of the presence of a French player that was not eligible to play for Monaco. * Again in pool "C" the match between Bulgaria and Norway was annulled because the designed referee wasn't able to arrive in Sofia and was substituted by another referee, called by the Bulgarian federation. 2010–12 European Nations Cup Second Division
The 2010–12 European Nations Cup Second Division is the third tier rugby union in Europe behind the Six Nations Championship and the 2010–12 European Nations Cup First Division. The second division comprises four pools (2A, 2B, 2C, and 2D). Teams within each division play each other in a home and away round robin schedule over a two-year period. At the end of each season a champion is declared, but for relegation and promotion only the two years ranking are considered. The first in the 2010–2012 ranking of each pool will be promoted while last place teams will be relegated. Winners of pool 2A, will be promoted to division 1-pool B for the 2012–14 edition while the last place team in pool 2A will be relegated to pool 2B. 2015 Rugby World Cup – Europe Qualification
The European Zone of qualification for the 2015 Rugby World Cup saw 31 teams competing for two places at the finals in England and one place in the Repechage playoff. Georgia and Romania qualified directly to the Rugby World Cup as Europe 1 and Europe 2, and will play in Pools C and D respectively. Russia finished third to qualify for the repechage playoff, but losing to Uruguay in the final Qualification round.
