Luxembourg Football Federation
The Luxembourg Football Federation ( lb, Lëtzebuerger Foussballfederatioun; french: Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Football, FLF; german: Luxemburger Fußballföderation) is the governing body of football in Luxembourg. It organises the Luxembourg Football League and the Luxembourg national football team. It is based in Mondercange, to the south of Luxembourg City. Football in Luxembourg is governed by the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF), which is a member of FIFA and UEFA. The FLF organises the men's, women's and futsal national teams, in addition to the main domestic competitions, the National Division and the Luxembourg Cup. Despite football being so popular, Luxembourg has rarely had a club pass the second round of qualifying for the Champions League. However, in the 2018-19 Europa League, F91 Dudelange became the first team from Luxembourg to qualify to the group stage of a major European Competition when they beat CFR Cluj of Romania in the Play-Offs 5-2 on aggregate. Émile Hamilius
Émile Hamilius (16 May 1897 – 7 March 1971) was a Luxembourgish politician for the Democratic Party. He was the Mayor of Luxembourg City from 1946 until 1963, and also sat three stints in the Chamber of Deputies (1937–40, 1945–58, 1959–64). Hamilius was the second President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, from 1953 until 1959. In earlier life, Hamilius played football for the Luxembourg national team, including at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp. He then combined his roles as an ex-footballer with that as a politician by serving as President of the Luxembourg Football Federation between 1950 and 1961. Luxembourg City's ''Place Émile Hamilius'', situated just off Boulevard Royal in Ville Haute, is named after Hamilius.
