Luuk Balkestein (born 9 April 1954 in Apeldoorn) is a Dutch retired football player who played for Sparta Rotterdam and Feyenoord, as well as the Dutch national side. International career Balkestein played three games for Netherlands U-21 and earned one senior cap for the Netherlands, a friendly match against France in March 1980. Apeldoorn
Apeldoorn (; Dutch Low Saxon: ) is a municipality and city in the province of Gelderland in the centre of the Netherlands. It is located about 60 km east of Utrecht, 60 km west of Enschede, 25 km north of Arnhem and 35 km south of Zwolle. Pim Balkestein (born 29 April 1987) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a centre back for De Treffers in the Dutch Tweede Divisie. He can also play as a left-back and is the son of ex-footballer Luuk Balkestein. Career Heerenveen Balkestein was born in the Dutch city of Gouda on 29 April 1987. He is the son of former Sparta Rotterdam and Feyenoord player Luuk Balkestein. He came through the academy ranks at SC Heerenveen, making the step up from the under-19 squad to the first team for the 2006–07 season. However, the defender would never made a first team appearance for the club. History Sportclub Heerenveen was founded on 20 July 1920 in the town of Heerenveen, Friesland, as Athleta. It changed name twice, first to Spartaan and then to v.v. Heerenveen in 1922.
