Lutxana-Sondika Line
The Lutxana-Sondika line ( eu, Lutxana-Sondika trenbidea, es, Ferrocarril Lutxana-Sondika) is a single-track branchline in Biscay, Basque Country, Spain. Owned by Euskal Trenbide Sarea, it runs from Lutxana to , connecting line 1 of the Bilbao metro with the Txorierri line. It is a remnant of the former Lutxana-Mungia line, which was partially closed in May 1975. History Early years On 10 March 1891, the government granted Manuel Lecanda the concession for building a railway between Lutxana (a neighborhood of Erandio) and Mungia. The Lutxana terminus served as an interchange with the Bilbao-Plentzia railway (nowadays part of line 1 of the metro). Works started on 14 May that year. Lutxana (Bilbao Metro)
Lutxana is a station of line 1 of Metro Bilbao, also served by the Lutxana-Sondika shuttle operated by Euskotren Trena. It is located in the neighbourhood of Lutxana-Enekuri, in the municipality of Erandio. In its current inception, the station was opened on 11 November 1995. Since 2015, the station has also been served by Euskotren Trena suburban trains. The Cercanías Bilbao commuter railway network (operated by Renfe) also has a Lutxana station on its C2/C3 line, but they are not at the same location or even in the same municipality – there is a relatively short distance of about between them as the crow flies, but they are situated on opposite banks of the Estuary of Bilbao (the 'other' Lutxana is part of Barakaldo). Mungia
Mungia (in Spanish: ''Munguía'') is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the Basque Country of northern Spain. The town has 17,691 inhabitants (2019). Geography Mungia lies 20 metres above sea level in an area full of open spaces, with a landscape of rolling hills; among these last are Gondramendi (217 m), Tallu (342 m) and Berreaga (366 m). The more important mountains nearby are Sollube (684 m) and Jata (592 m); these surround the valley of the Butroi river, which rises at the mountain of Bizkargi (536 m) and flows to the sea at the Plentzia estuary. Euskotren Trena, formerly known just as ''Euskotren'' is a commuter, inter-city and urban transit train-operating company that operates local and inter-city passenger services in the provinces of Biscay and Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country, Spain. It is one of the four commercial brands under which Euskotren operates, as a public company managed by the Basque government. The entire network uses narrow gauge rail tracks which have been owned by the Basque Government since their transferral from the Spanish government; the rail tracks and stations were part of the FEVE network until its transferral. Euskotren 950 Series
The Euskotren 950 series is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by Euskotren in the Basque Country, Spain. History In June 2014, Euskotren awarded CAF the construction of 28 3-car EMUs for 150 million euros. They are similar to the earlier 900 series, but feature improved accessibility. The first trainset was delivered in November 2015. The series entered service on the Txorierri line on July 2, 2016. The series gradually replaced the older 200 and 300 series trains, with the last unit being delivered in 2018. Euskotren 900 Series
The Euskotren 900 series is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by Euskotren in the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain. History In January 2009, Euskotren awarded Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, CAF the construction of 27 3-car EMUs for 129 million euros, excluding VAT. The contract was later extended to 30 4-car EMUs for 201 million euros. The first trainset was delivered on 16 March 2011 in Durango, Biscay, Durango. Five days later, on March 21, it made its first test trip on the San Sebastián Metro, Topo line. The series entered service on that same line (Euskotren Trena, Euskotren's busiest) on July 22. Line 3 of the Bilbao metro is a rapid transit line in Biscay, Basque Country, Spain. It is long and connects Etxebarri and the Uribarri and Otxarkoaga-Txurdinaga districts in Bilbao with the city center. Euskotren, formally known as Basque Railways ( eu, Eusko Trenbideak, es, Ferrocarriles Vascos), is a public railway company controlled by the Basque Government and officially established in 1982 to operate several narrow gauge railways inside the autonomous community of the Basque Country, under the terms of the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country. Renfe Feve is a division of state-owned Spanish railway company Renfe Operadora. It operates most of Spain's of railway. Elotxelerri Station
Elotxelerri is a railway station in Loiu, Basque Country, Spain. It is owned by Euskal Trenbide Sarea and operated by Euskotren. It lies on the Txorierri line. History The station was not part of the Txorierri line when it opened in 1894. Due to budget constraints, the original alignment through Mount Artxanda included prolonged steep slopes. This caused a serious accident only two months after the opening, after which the decision was taken to build a tunnel directly under the mountain. The track in which the station is located opened on 31 October 1908, as part of the new alignment between Bilbao and Lezama. The station was built in the 1990s as part of the renovation of the line, which also included the construction of a new station in and the extension of the line to .
