Lunuwila
Lunuwila () is a town in the Puttalam District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is approximately inland of the coastal town of Wennappuwa, north of Negombo and south of Chilaw. The Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka, founded in 1929, is located on the Bandirippuwa Estate in Lunuwila. Transport The town is on the intersection of the B473 (Wennappuwa - Kirimetiyana Road) and the Sirigampala Para. The Lunuwila train station is the ninth station on the Puttalam rail line. North Western Province, Sri Lanka
North Western Province ( si, වයඹ පළාත ''Wayamba Paḷāta'', ta, வட மேல் மாகாணம் ''Vada Mael Mākāṇam'') is a province of Sri Lanka. The province consists of the districts of Kurunegala and Puttalam. Its capital is Kurunegala, which has a population of 28,571. The province is known mainly for its numerous coconut plantations. Other main towns in this province are Chilaw (24,712) and Puttalam (45,661), which are both small fishing towns. The majority of the population of Wayamba province is of Sinhalese ethnicity. There is also a substantial Sri Lankan Moor minority around Puttalam and Sri Lankan Tamils in Udappu and Munneswaram. Fishing, prawn farming and rubber tree plantations are other prominent industries of the region. The province has an area of 7,888 km2, and a population of 2,370,075 (2011 census). Puttalam Line
The Puttalam line (originally called the North-Western Line) is a broad gauge railway line in the rail network of Sri Lanka. The railway line begins at Ragama junction and runs through the major towns along the north-west coast of the country, through to Periyanagavillu. It has forty two stations along its length. Wennappuwa is a town in Puttalam District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka, North Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is north of Negombo. The village of Wennappuwa is mentioned in the Culavamsa as a small farming hamlet. History A church made of wattle and daub, consecrated to St. Joseph, was put up in Gangoda in 1850. Very Rev. Fr. Contentious Chounavel (OMI) a French Missionary and the founder of the church arrived at Wennappuwa between 1861 and 1863 A.D. 300 families lived there at the time.
