Lunghua Civilian Assembly Centre
Lunghua Civil Assembly Centre was one of the internment camps eventually established by the Empire of Japan in Shanghai for European and American citizens, who had been resident under Japanese occupation since December 1941. Many had formerly lived in Shanghai within the Shanghai International Settlement before its occupation by the imperial Japanese army. J. G. Ballard was interned in the camp as an adolescent. His experiences there inspired the book (and subsequent movie) ''Empire of the Sun''. Description Lunghua Civil Assembly Centre was originally the Jiangsu Shanghai High School. It was located on Minghong Road about three miles (5 km) from Shanghai Longhua Airport. (Pre-WWII documents use the alternate spellings of ''Lunghua'' and ''Lunghwa''; the modern anglicized spelling of the town is ''Longhua''.) Internment is the imprisonment of people, commonly in large groups, without charges or intent to file charges. The term is especially used for the confinement "of enemy citizens in wartime or of terrorism suspects". Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID; Chinese: 上海中学国际部) is an international school in Shanghai, China, that was founded in 1993 as the international division of Shanghai High School. SHSID offers grades 1 through 12. Its sole language of instruction is English, though all students are required to take Chinese classes. The Shanghai Botanical Garden () is a botanic garden located in the southwestern suburbs of Shanghai, China, (around 12 km southwest of the city centre) in the Xuhui District. Covering 81.86 hectares, the garden has a renowned penjing garden, as well as collections of magnolias, roses, azaleas, peonies, conifers, maples, osmanthus and bamboo. A football pitch (also known as soccer field) is the playing surface for the game of association football. Its dimensions and markings are defined by Law 1 of the Laws of the Game, "The Field of Play". Shanghai Longhua Airport
Shanghai Longhua Airport (上海龙华机场) , then called Shanghai Lunghwa Airport, was a converted general aviation airport and PLAAF airfield located south of downtown Shanghai, China, on the bank of the Huangpu River. It opened in the early 1920s and served as the city's airport until the 1950s when Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport opened. Thereafter, it was one of two general aviation airports serving Shanghai and also served as an emergency landing site for police, fire and rescue operations southwest of the city.
