Lunda (Asia Minor)
Lunda or Lounda is an ancient city in Phrygia, Asia Minor (modern Turkey). Under the Roman Empire, it was in the province of Phrygia Prima (Pacatiana), in the civil Diocese of Pontus. The Anatolian site is now known as Isabey. Ecclesiastical history Lunda was a suffragan bishopric of the Metropolitan Archbishopric of Laodicea (on the Lycus), under the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Two incumbents are known: * Niceforus attended the Second Council of Nicaea in 787 * Eustachius participated in the Council of Constantinople in 879-880. The diocese was nominally restored in 1926 as the Roman Catholic titular bishopric A titular see in various churches is an episcopal see of a former diocese that no longer functions, sometimes called a "dead diocese". Eastern Lunda
The Lunda people of the Luapula River valley in Zambia and DR Congo are called by others the ''Eastern Lunda'' to distinguish them from the 'western' Lunda people who remained in the heartland of the former Lunda Kingdom, but they themselves would use ''Kazembe-Lunda'' or Luunda with an elongated 'u' to make that distinction. (The name 'Lunda' may also be spelled Luunda). The Eastern Lunda migrated in the 18th Century to their current area under the leader Mwata Kazembe. Their neighbours in northern Zambia to whom they are allied, the Bemba, did so at the same time, and the Eastern Lunda took on the Bemba language in place of the Chilunda, their original language. Their (western) Lunda compatriots in the North-Western Province of Zambia still speak Chilunda however. Elena Lunda was an Italian actress. She was the daughter of Vittorio Lunda Gondola ( Gundulić) from Ragusa/Dubrovnik. She appeared in 35 films between 1919 and 1928.
