Lumsden (provincial Electoral District)
Lumsden was a provincial electoral division for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. The district was one of 25 created before the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905. It was the riding of Premier Thomas Walter Scott. The Lumsden constituency was renamed "Regina County" between the 1908 election and the 1912 election. Redrawn to include the area of the abolished district of North Qu'Appelle in 1934, the constituency was renamed "Qu'Appelle". Redrawn and renamed again as "Qu'Appelle-Lumsden" in 1982, the riding was abolished before the 23rd Saskatchewan general election in 1995. It is now part of the Regina Qu'Appelle Valley, Lumsden-Morse, and Last Mountain-Touchwood constituencies. Frederick Clarke Tate
Frederick Clarke Tate (January 24, 1849 – 1920) was a farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Regina County from 1908 to 1912 as a Provincial Rights Party member and Lumsden from 1912 to 1917 as a Conservative in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. He was born in Grafton, Ontario, the son of Robert Tate and Margaret Clarke, and was educated there and in Brighton. Tate taught school for five years in Ontario and then travelled west in 1882. John Gary Lane
John Gary Lane , (born May 2, 1942), commonly known as Gary Lane, is a judge and former political figure in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. He represented Lumsden from 1971 to 1975 and Qu'Appelle from 1975 to 1976 as a Liberal and then Qu'Appelle from 1976 to 1982 and Qu'Appelle-Lumsden from 1982 to 1991 as a Progressive Conservative in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the son of Richard Louis Lane and Kathleen May Flanagan, and was educated in Saskatoon and at the University of Saskatchewan, where he received a Bachelor of Law degree. Lane articled in Saskatoon and was called to the Saskatchewan bar in 1966. Darrel Verner Heald
Darrel Verner Heald (August 27, 1919 – August 8, 2010) was a lawyer and political figure in Saskatchewan and a Canadian federal judge. He represented Lumsden from 1964 to 1971 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, the son of Herbert Heald and Lotta Knutson, and was educated in Liberty, in Govan and at the University of Saskatchewan, where he received B.A. and a LLB degrees. Heald articled in Regina. He then served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. After the war, Heald practised law in Regina. In 1951, he married Doris Rose Hessey. He served in the provincial cabinet as Attorney General, as Provincial Secretary and as Minister of Co-operation and Co-operative Development. Saskatchewan New Democratic Party
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. History Precursors The origins of the party began as early as 1902. In that year a group of farmers created the Territorial Grain Growers' Association. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways. The name was changed to the Saskatchewan Grain Growers' Association (SGGA) when Saskatchewan became a province in 1905. William Sancho Thair (February 20, 1887 – November 28, 1966) was a farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. Henry Mang
Henry Philip Mang (11 December 1897 – 30 March 1987) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Edenwold, Northwest Territories, which is now in Saskatchewan. Mang trained in Toronto at the Royal College of Dentistry at the University of Toronto where he also took a one-year honours course in Philosophy, English and History. He participated in World War I under the Royal Flying Corps. Eventually, his jobs included farming and teaching and became a school principal. Between 1934 and 1938, Mang was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for the Lumsden riding. The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan is a conservative political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Prior to 1942, it was known as the Conservative Party of Saskatchewan. James Fraser Bryant (May 19, 1877 – September 18, 1945) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. He represented Lumsden in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1929 to 1934 as a Conservative. He was born in Glen Allan, Ontario, the son of Reverend James Bryant and Dora McGill, and was educated at Upper Canada College, Queen's University and the University of Manitoba.
