Lumiton Studios
Lumiton is a former film production company and current museum located in Munro, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Lumiton Studios was founded in 1932 at the start of the golden age of film in that country. Its lowbrow, populist films appealed to local audiences and were highly successful in Argentina and throughout Latin America. It was the main competitor to Argentina Sono Film in the 1940s. After World War II (1939–45) Lumiton faced increased government regulation, rising costs and loss of audiences to more sophisticated Hollywood productions. The company was forced to shut down in 1952. History Beginning Lumiton was founded in the town of Munro, Buenos Aires, with an initial capital of 300,000 pesos. ''Los tres berretines'' (''The Three Whims'') is a 1933 Argentine black and white comedy film, the first film made by the newly formed Lumiton film studio, and one of the first sound films made in Argentina. It was a great success and launched the film career of the comedian Luis Sandrini. In 2022, the film was included in Spanish magazine ''Fotogramas''s list of the 20 best Argentine films of all time. Synopsis The film has traditional popular melodrama plot elements, and includes performances of tango songs. Niní Marshall
Marina Esther Traveso (June 1, 1903 – March 18, 1996), known by her stage name Niní Marshall, was an Argentine humorist, comic actress and screenwriter; nicknamed ''The Chaplin with a skirt'' and ''The Lady of Humour''. Life and work She was born in Buenos Aires to Pedro and María Ángela Traveso, a well-to-do family in 1903. Losing her father at two months of age, she was raised by her mother, who affectionately called her "Niní." Fernando César Ochoa (also called Goyo Godoy; 29 November 1905 – 23 March 1974) was an actor from Argentina who appeared on radio, in films and on TV. Life Fernando César Ochoa was born in La Plata, Buenos Aires, on 29 November 1905. His parents were María Luisa Escandón and Ernesto Gerónimo Ochoa. Laura Ana "Tita" Merello (11 October 1904 – 24 December 2002) was an Argentine film actress, tango dancer and singer of the Golden Age of Argentine Cinema (1940–1960). In her 6 decades in Argentine entertainment, at the time of her death, she had filmed over thirty movies, premiered twenty plays, had nine television appearances, completed three radio series and had had countless appearances in print media. Manuel Romero (director)
Manuel Romeo (September 21, 1891 – October 3, 1954 in Buenos Aires) was an Argentine film director, screenwriter, dramatist and score composer, and one of the influential directors in the cinema of Argentina of the classic era. He directed and wrote over 50 films between 1931 and 1951 even composing the musical scores for several. He was a pioneer of Variety Theatre, and one of the few tango lyrical writers that has reached timeless classical success. When he was a teenager, he began his journalist job in the Magacine Fray Mochoy, and in the newspapers Crítica y Última Hora. His first play, "Teatro breve" is from 1919 with the collaboration of Ivo Pelay. He wrote 180 more.
