Lumen Prize
The Lumen Prize is an international award which celebrates art created with technology, especially digital art. Overview The prize was founded by Carla Rapoport in 2012, The Lumen Prize has visited more than ten cities around the world including Amsterdam, Athens, Hong Kong, New York, Riga, Swansea and Shanghai. Through its parent company Lumen Art Projects, which promotes the work of longlisted, shortlisted and winning artists, Lumen has collaborated with the Barbican Centre, Computer Arts Society and the EVA London Conferences as well as the Tate, Photomonitor, Goldsmiths, University of London, Eureka! ( Halifax), the British Computer Society, IBM UK, the Royal College of Art (London), CYLAND Media Lab (Saint Petersburg), etc. Since its launch, the Lumen Prize has given away more than $80,000 in prize money and staged over 45 exhibitions globally. Eureka! (museum)
Eureka! The National Children's Museum is an interactive educational museum for children in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, with a focus on learning through play. It is run as an educational charity and not-for-profit organisation. Eureka! is based on the North American model of children's museums, aimed at families with children aged 0–11 and encourages hands-on inter-generational learning. History The Museum for Children was formally constituted as a registered charity in 1985 by Vivien Duffield who was inspired to create the museum after visiting a children's museum in Boston in the United States. The museum is intended for children aged up to 12 with accompanying adults, and it was established with £9 million funding, £7 million of which came from the Clore and Duffield foundations with the rest from grants and private donations. Casey Edwin Barker Reas (born 1972), also known as C. E. B. Reas or Casey Reas, is an American artist whose conceptual, procedural and minimal artworks explore ideas through the contemporary lens of software. Reas is perhaps best known for having created, with Ben Fry, the Processing programming language. Education and early work Reas was born Casey Edwin Barker Reas in 1972 in Troy, Ohio. He studied design at the University of Cincinnati and then spent the next two years developing software and electronics as an artistic exploration. Andy Lomas (born 1967 in Welwyn Garden City, England) is a British artist with a mathematical background, formerly a television and film CG supervisor and more recently a contemporary digital artist, with a special interest in morphogenesis using mathematical morphology. Lomas previously worked on visual effects using computer graphics ( CGI) for television and films such as ''The Matrix Reloaded'' (2003), ''The Matrix Revolutions'' (2003) and ''Avatar'' (2009). before becoming a digital artist. Refik Anadol (born 1985) is a Turkish-American new media artist and designer. His projects consist of data-driven machine learning algorithms that create abstract, dream-like environments. He lives and works in Los Angeles. Early life and education Anadol was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in photography and video and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Bilgi University in Istanbul.
