Luman L. Cadwell
Luman L. Cadwell (May 22, 1836 – July 8, 1925) was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Decorah, Iowa
Decorah is a city in and the county seat of Winneshiek County, Iowa, United States. The population was 7,587 at the time of the 2020 census. Decorah is located at the intersection of State Highway 9 and U.S. Route 52, and is the largest community in Winneshiek County. History Decorah was the site of a Ho-Chunk village beginning ''circa'' 1840. Several Ho-Chunks had settled along the Upper Iowa River that year when the U.S. Army forced them to remove from Wisconsin. In 1848, the United States removed the Ho-Chunks again to a new reservation in Minnesota, opening their Iowa villages to white settlers. The first European-Americans to settle were the Day family from Tazewell County, Virginia. According to local Congregationalist minister Rev. 2nd Regiment New York Veteran Volunteer Cavalry
The 2nd New York Veteran Cavalry Regiment, officially known as the 2nd Regiment, New York Veteran Volunteer Cavalry, was a unit of the Union Army during the American Civil War. The three-year volunteer cavalry regiment was raised in 1863 from veterans of the 30th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment, briefly reorganized as the Empire Light Cavalry. It was mustered into federal service by companies 15 August through 30 December 1863. Due to the end of the war before its three-year enlistment, it mustered out of service on 8 November 1865. The medal is normally awarded by the president of the United States, but as it is presented "in the name of the United States Congress", it is sometimes erroneously referred to as the "Congressional Medal of Honor".
