Cocteau Twins
Cocteau Twins was a Scottish rock band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by Robin Guthrie (guitars, drum machine) and Will Heggie (bass), adding Elizabeth Fraser (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist Simon Raymonde in 1983. The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the soprano vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often eschew any recognisable language. They pioneered the 1980s alternative subgenre of dream pop. After signing with the British record label 4AD in 1982, they released their debut album '' Garlands'' later that year. The addition of Raymonde in 1983 solidified their final lineup, which produced their biggest hit in the UK, "Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops", peaking at No. 29 on the UK Singles Chart. In 1988, Cocteau Twins signed with Capitol Records in the United States, distributing their fifth album, ''Blue Bell Knoll'', through a major label in the country. After the 1990 release of their m ...

Snow (EP)
''Snow'' is a 1993 EP by Scottish band Cocteau Twins, released in December 1993 on Fontana Records. It contains cover versions of the Christmas standards "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland". It is out of print, though its tracks appear on the compilation ''Lullabies to Violaine''. Background ''Snow'' was released in extremely limited quantities; one expert suggested that fewer than 5,000 copies were made. One of the songs on the album, "Frosty the Snowman," was recorded more than a year before ''Snows release, for an album to accompany a year-end issue of ''Volume''. Robin Guthrie was reluctant to record Christmas songs, so the group opted to record non-specific winter songs instead. Critical reception ''Snow'' received fairly positive reviews from contemporary music critics despite its limited release. AllMusic's Ned Raggett called the EP "perfectly enjoyable," noted its calmness and praised Elizabeth Fraser's vocal performance. ''Hybrid Magazines Tom Topkoff noted tha ...

Evangeline (song)
''Evangeline'' is a song and the 12th EP by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins. It was recorded and mixed at September Sound in London, and released in September 1993 by record label Fontana. The song, written by group members Elizabeth Fraser, Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde, was a moderate hit in several countries and very popular in Portugal. It was included on the band's seventh studio album, ''Four-Calendar Café'' (1993). The accompanying music video for "Evangeline" was directed by German film director Nico Beyer. Critical reception Jason Ankeny from AllMusic stated that songs like "Evangeline" "continue the trio's advance into more accessible melodic and lyrical ground without sacrificing even an ounce of their trademark ethereality." Josef Woodard from ''Entertainment Weekly'' felt it have "an otherworldly shimmer, a mode perfected by these early architects of dream pop." David Beran from the ''Gavin Report'' wrote, "Headphones are a must for this sonic picnic ...

Upon its release, "Iceblink Luck" received favourable airplay on national radio stations, including in the United Kingdom and Switzerland where it was added to several radio stations B-list playlists, and in Holland where it was ranked amongst the Top 5 "power play" ...

The EP featured two versions of "Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops", and two B-sides. All three songs appeared in the band's live set. "The Spangle Maker" and "Pepper-Tree" were recorded at the Palladium Studios in Edinburgh and mixed at Rooster in West London. "Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops" was recorded at Rooster. Reception Ned Raggett of ''The Guardian'' wrote that "The Spangle Maker" had "a minimal, tense arrangement that suddenly exploded into a concluding, crashing swoon" and described "Pepper-Tree" as one of the band's "gentlest tracks to date, a serene and exquisite lope that could only be described as sunlight through curtains." He also remarked that "Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops" sounded like an anthem, featuring "Guthrie’s trademark sound of heavily reverbed guitars that might as well have been bells, that m ...

Peppermint Pig
"Peppermint Pig" is a song by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins. It was released as both a single and 12" EP on 4 April 1983 by record label 4AD. Musically, the material was similar to their previous release, the 1982 EP ''Lullabies''. It was the last release to feature original bassist Will Heggie. Background ''Peppermint Pig'' marked the only time that Cocteau Twins used an outside producer for one of their recordings, with production handled by Alan Rankine of Associates. The group were dissatisfied with the results. Robin Guthrie described the EP as "shit" in a 1983 interview with ''Sounds'', claiming it was "a bad mixture—bad song, bad producer, bad band." Elizabeth Fraser simply described the material as "all we had at the time". Release "Peppermint Pig" was originally released as a limited-edition 7-inch single, featuring two tracks, "Peppermint Pig" and "Laugh Lines". A 12-inch EP was also released, including an extended mix of "Peppermint Pig", ...
