Lukiiko
{{refimprove, date=June 2014 The Lukiiko (sometimes Great Lukiiko) is the Parliament of the Kingdom of Buganda. It was, according to tradition, established by Kato Kintu, the first Kabaka of Buganda, after defeating the rival prince Bbemba, when he called a general meeting of influential people at Magongo. It took its present form as a result of the Buganda Agreement of 1900 and subsequent agreements. The Lukiiko is today convened at the Bulange Bulange (''boo-lah-ngeh''), is a building in Uganda. It houses the '' Lukiiko'' (Parliament) of the Kingdom of Buganda. The Kabaka of Buganda and the '' Katikkiro'' (Prime Minister) of Buganda also maintain offices in the building. The building .... Buganda Agreement (1900)
Signed in March 1900, this agreement formed the basis of British relations with Buganda, the Kabaka (King) was recognised as ruler of Buganda as long he remained faithful to her Majesty, the Lukiko (council of chiefs) given statutory recognition. This was following another agreement signed in 1894 in which the Kingdom of Buganda, then known as Uganda, was declared a British Protectorate.This agreement is also known as the Buganda Charter of Rights and was upheld for more than 50 years. Buganda
Buganda is a Bantu peoples, Bantu kingdom within Uganda. The kingdom of the Baganda, Baganda people, Buganda is the largest of the traditional kingdoms in present-day East Africa, consisting of Buganda's Districts of Uganda, Central Region, including the Ugandan capital Kampala. Bulange
Bulange (''boo-lah-ngeh''), is a building in Uganda. It houses the ''Lukiiko'' (Parliament) of the Kingdom of Buganda. The Kabaka of Buganda and the ''Katikkiro'' (Prime Minister) of Buganda also maintain offices in the building. The building serves as the administrative headquarters of the Buganda Kingdom. Location Bulange is on Namirembe Hill close to Namirembe Hospital, about northwest of the main gate of Mengo Palace in Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. This is approximately southwest of the city center of Kampala. The coordinates of Bulange are 0°18'35.0"N, 32°33'30.0"E (Latitude:0.309722; Longitude:32.558333). Kato Kintu
Kato Kintu Kakulukuku (''fl.'' Late 13th century) known in Bunyoro as Kato Kimera was the first kabaka (king) of the Kingdom of Buganda. "Kintu" is an adopted by-name, chosen for Kintu, the name of the first person on earth in Buganda mythology. Kato Kintu gave himself the name "Kintu" to associate himself with the "father of all people", and he may have renamed his wife, from Nantuttululu to Nambi, because that was Kintu's wife's name. Background and reign Kintu was born at Bukasa Village, in the Ssese Islands, on Lake Nalubaale. He established his capital at Nnono, Busujju County. Politics Of Uganda
Uganda is a presidential republic in which the President of Uganda is the head of state and the prime minister is the head of government business. There is a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is given to both the government and the National Assembly. The system is based on a democratic parliamentary system with equal rights for all citizens over 18 years of age. Political culture In a measure ostensibly designed to reduce sectarian violence, political parties were restricted in their activities from 1986. In the non-party "Movement" system instituted by President Yoweri Museveni, political parties continued to exist but could not campaign in elections or field candidates directly (although electoral candidates could belong to political parties).
