Luke Quigley
Luke Quigley (born 20 July 1981) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played as a for the Newcastle Knights in the National Rugby League (NRL) and the Catalans Dragons in the Super League. Background Quigley went to school at St Gregory's College, Campbelltown. Playing career Quigley made his first grade debut for Newcastle against the Wests Tigers in Round 15 2002. In 2003, Quigley made 21 appearances as Newcastle reached the finals but were eliminated by the Sydney Roosters. In 2005, Quigley made 16 appearances as Newcastle finished last claiming the wooden spoon. Quigley's final game in the NRL came in 2006 in a 50–6 loss against Brisbane in the elimination semi final. In 2007, Quigley joined the Catalans Dragons and played one season with the club. In March 2007 he was signed to French Super League club Catalans Dragons to replace the injured Aaron Gorrell. Newcastle Rugby League
The Newcastle Rugby League is a local rugby league football competition in Newcastle, Australia. It is one of the oldest rugby league competitions in Australia, founded in 1910. A Newcastle representative team was also assembled from players in the League during most of the 20th century. The first grade competition also comprises the NSWRL Presidents Cup Northern Conference. History A Newcastle team competed in the inaugural New South Wales Rugby League premiership of 1908 but withdrew after the 1909 season to form the local competition. Aaron Gorrell (born 31 March 1981) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played as a in the 2000s. He played for the St. George Illawarra Dragons and the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL, and for the Catalans Dragons in the Super League. Background Gorrell was born in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Playing career Gorrell was made famous by slotting in the last-minute conversion in a round 15, 2006 game against the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium. The Dragons won the match 18-16. Gorrell had converted rookie Brett Morris' try in the 78th minute after coach Nathan Brown gave him the goal-kicking duties after Mathew Head had kicked the last two conversions. The Newcastle Knights are an Australian professional rugby league club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. They compete in Australasia's premier rugby league competition, the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership. Playing in red and blue, the Knights joined the top tier competition in 1988, 79 years after the previous Newcastle based team, the Newcastle Rebels had departed the Sydney competition with the formation of a separate league competition based in the Newcastle region.
