Luke Goodwin
Luke Goodwin (born 18 January 1973) is a former professional rugby league footballer who played in Australia and England and represented Aotearoa Māori in 2000. Background He is the son of rugby league legend, Edward 'Lord Ted' Goodwin who represented Australia. He is also the elder brother of fellow players, Bronx, Bryson and Grayson. Playing career Goodwin played in both Australia (NRL - Canberra Raiders '91, Penrith Panthers '92, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs '93-'95, Western Reds '96, Western Suburbs Magpies '99) and England (Super League - Oldham Bears '97, London Broncos '98). Goodwin began his career joining the Canberra Raiders in 1991 but did not play any first grade. In 1992 he joined the Penrith Panthers where he played ten first grade games. His 1992 stat ended up scoring two tries and booting two goals for 12 points. In 1993 he joined the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. Penrith Panthers
The Penrith Panthers are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the western Sydney suburb of Penrith that competes in the NRL. The team is based west of the centre of Sydney, at the foot of the Blue Mountains. Penrith are the current reigning NRL Premiers, having won the title four times. Penrith were admitted to the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition in 1967. Penrith struggled for almost twenty years before finally reaching their first finals series. The club achieved its first Grand Final appearance in 1990 but were beaten by the Canberra Raiders 18–14. City vs Country Origin was an annual Australian rugby league football match that took place in New South Wales between City and Country representative sides. The City side represented the Sydney metropolitan area. While technically it was Sydney vs. the rest of NSW, players from the Central Coast (such as Matt Orford and Mark O'Meley) often represented City, but other players from the Central Coast (such as Chris Heighington) represented Country. The Country side represented the rest of New South Wales. The concept of an annual clash between a City and Country team originally started in 1911 with a Metropolitan side taking on the Country team. Canterbury-Bankstown is a customary region of Sydney, Australia, in the south-western suburbs. 2008 Rugby League World Cup
The 2008 Rugby League World Cup was the thirteenth staging of the Rugby League World Cup since its inauguration in 1954, and the first since the 2000 tournament. The tournament was held in Australia from 26 October, culminating in the final between Australia and New Zealand on 22 November. The tournament was the fourth time that the World Cup was held in Australia, the first being in 1957. The tournament was won by New Zealand, who defeated Australia 34–20 in the final in one of the greatest upsets in the history of the sport. The tournament featured the best ten teams around the globe which were split into three groups. A total of eighteen matches took place in twelve different venues across four Australian states. The tournament ended a year of celebrations commemorating the centenary of the game in the southern hemisphere and was part of the Festival of World Cups.
