Luke Crane (born 23 June 1985) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Sturt Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Originally from George Town in Tasmania, Crane was recruited to Sturt from Queensland club Zillmere. Zillmere Eagles
Zillmere Eagles Australian Football Club (formerly Windsor-Zillmere, North Brisbane and Northern Eagles) is an Australian rules football club based in the suburb of Zillmere in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. The team plays in the QAFA Division 4. It reformed the senior side in 2013 and it was undefeated all year in the SEQAFL State Div 4 northern competition. Zillmere once competed in the AFL Queensland Australian Football League, where it ceased to play in 2008. The club also fields women's (in the AFL Queensland Women's League) and junior teams. History The original Zillmere FC had been established in 1923. The team won 13 QAFL championships until 1962, when the "Windsor-Zillmere FC" was formed from the merger of Zillmere and neighbouring Windsor Football Club. Sturt Football Club
The Sturt Football Club, nicknamed The Double Blues, is a semi-professional Australian rules football club based in the suburb of Unley, South Australia, which plays in the South Australian National Football League. Founded in 1901 by the Sturt Cricket Club, the club initially struggled to make the finals, however, in 1915 they won their first Premiership. After several decades of substantial finals appearances and a few premiership wins, Sturt entered a period of success, winning seven premierships from 1966 to 1976 under coach Jack Oatey. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. The Magarey Medal is an Australian rules football honour awarded annually since 1898 to the fairest and most brilliant player in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), as judged by field umpires. The award was created by William Ashley Magarey, then chairman of the league. The current recipient is Aaron Young. History William Magarey was born in Adelaide, South Australia. A lawyer by vocation, he had an enduring interest in sports, although he did not play football. He was, however, an active sports administrator who, in 1897, became the inaugural Chairman of the South Australian Football Association (later renamed the SANFL). The sport at that time was known for often rough play, and Magarey wanted to help combat this, and help gain more respect for umpires. In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. The votes are counted at a gala function on the Monday preceding the Grand Final. Geography As at 2008, Zillmere was approximately 60% residential and 40% industrial. History The Turrbal people occupied the region north of Brisbane River, including the area covered by Zillmere.
