Luis Padrón
Luis "El Mulo" Padrón Otorena (ca. 1878 – 1939) was a Cuban baseball player in the Negro leagues and Cuban League. Padron played from 1902 to 1917 with several Cuban ballclubs, including Habana, San Francisco, Club Fé, San Francisco Park, and Almendares. He played in the Negro leagues in 1909 and 1911 for the Cuban Stars (West), and in 1915 and 1916 for the Long Branch/Jersey City/Poughkeepsie Cubans. Padron also played in the Minor leagues, playing in the South Atlantic League, Connecticut State League, Illinois–Indiana–Iowa League, Ohio–Pennsylvania League, New York–New Jersey League, and the Atlantic League. Pitcher
In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum. Connecticut League
The Connecticut League, also known as the Connecticut State League, was a professional baseball association of teams in the state of Connecticut. The league began as offshoot of the original Connecticut State League, which dates back as far as 1884. In 1891, the Connecticut State League included the Ansonia Cuban Giants, a team made up of entirely African-American ballplayers, including future Hall of Famers Frank Grant and Sol White. In 1902, it was a Class D league with teams in eight cities. In 1905, the league became Class B, which lasted until 1913, when the league became the Eastern Association due to several teams outside of the state entering the league. Cuban Baseball Hall Of Fame
The Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame (''Salón de la Fama del Béisbol Cubano'') is a hall of fame that honors eminent baseball players from Cuban baseball. Established in 1939 to honor players, managers, and umpires in the pre-revolution Cuban League, by 1961 it had honored 68 players, managers, and umpires whose names are shown on a marble plaque at Havana's Estadio Latinoamericano. After the revolution, however, the Hall of Fame languished for more than 50 years, seldom mentioned or acknowledged and with no new inductees. Following a campaign led by Cuban filmmaker Ian Padrón, a meeting was held on November 7–8, 2014 to reformulate the Hall of Fame and to propose a museum in which it would be housed. The reformulated Hall recognized the original 68 members, and a jury of 25 people selected 10 new inductees—five from the pre-revolution period and five representing for the first time the post-revolution Cuban National Series. Atlantic League (1914)
The second Atlantic League was a Class D minor league baseball league that operated for one season in 1914. The league had been known as the New York–New Jersey League a season earlier. The league president was Rosslyn M. Cox, who would later serve as the mayor of Middletown, New York. The Poughkeepsie Honey Bugs finished first in the league standings, with a record of 65–31 (there was no postseason). Internal politics and poor financial agreements hindered the league, which made it to the year's end, but folded before it could play another season. It was unrelated, except for name, to the first league with the name. The name has subsequently been used for a contemporary independent minor league.
