Luis María Peralta
Luis María Peralta (1759 in Sonora, New Spain – August 26, 1851) was a Spanish-born Californio ranchero and soldier in the Spanish Army. Peralta received Rancho San Antonio, one of the largest of the rancho grants in California, covering that encompassed most of the East Bay region of the Bay Area in Northern California. Biography The Peralta family (the 17-year-old Luis, his father, mother and three siblings) was part of the group of settlers that arrived in Alta California with Juan Bautista de Anza on his 1776 expedition. This group of settlers subsequently helped found the Presidio of San Francisco, Mission Santa Clara, and the Pueblo of San José. When he reached the age of 21, Luís entered, as was traditional, into the military of the King of Spain. Mission San José (California)
Mission San José is a Spanish missions in California, Spanish mission located in the present-day city of Fremont, California. It was founded on June 11, 1797, by the Franciscan order and was the fourteenth Spanish mission established in California. The mission is the namesake of the Fremont, California#Mission San Jose District, Mission San José district of Fremont, which was an independent town annexation, subsumed into the city when it was incorporated in 1957. The Mission entered a long period of gradual decline after Mexican secularization act of 1833. After suffering decline, neglect and earthquakes most of the mission was in ruins. Hermenegildo Ignacio Peralta (April 3, 1791 – May 9, 1874) was a Spanish settler in California, the eldest son of Luís María Peralta. Biography Ignacio Peralta was the owner of the Peralta Home in San Leandro, California, which was built on the southerly portion of Rancho San Antonio, the land grant his father received from Governor Pablo Vicente de Solá in 1820. Initially, he and his wife lived in a simple adobe house on the property, constructed in 1842 along San Leandro Creek, across from the home of José Joaquín Estudillo, where he raised cattle, as well as various grains.
