Luis González Maté
Luis González Maté (born 17 March 1931) is a retired Spanish boxer. Early life Maté was born in the neighbourhood of Lavapiés, Madrid. At the age of five, the Spanish Civil War lead him to Barcelona where, soon, his mother died and his father disappeared. He recalls ending up living with his grandmother and when the sirens sounded the warning for the bombings going to look for food in the stores. Survival was tough for them as there was very little food around. Following the conflict he returned to Madrid to live with his uncle. Soon thereafter his father reappeared and took him and his little brother to live with him in a miserable basement in very poor conditions. He had to do the housework and helped his father in his workshop which was attached to their basement. Despite all his efforts, his father abused them, beat them for no reason and did not feed them well. Given this scenario he thought of leaving to become a bullfighter. Carlos Ortiz (September 9, 1936 – June 13, 2022) was a Puerto Rican professional boxer. He held world titles in lightweight and light welterweight weight divisions. Along with Félix Trinidad, Miguel Cotto, Wilfredo Gómez, Héctor Camacho, José Torres, Edwin Rosario and Wilfred Benítez, Ortiz is considered among the best Puerto Rican boxers of all time by sports journalists and analysts. As of January 2018, Ortiz holds the record for the most wins in unified lightweight title bouts in boxing history at 10. In 1991, Ortiz was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Light welterweight, also known as junior welterweight or super lightweight, is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Professional boxing In professional boxing, light welterweight is contested between the lightweight and welterweight divisions, in which boxers weigh above 61.2kg or 135 pounds and up to 63.5 kg or 140 pounds.
