Luis A. Berdiel Rivera
Luis A. Berdiel Rivera (born October 8, 1962 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican politician and was member of the Senate of Puerto Rico in 2009. He is affiliated with the pro-statehood New Progressive Party (PNP) and had also served as a Municipal Legislator in Adjuntas. Early years and studies Berdiel Rivera was born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico on October 8, 1962. His parents were Miguel Berdiel and Paulina Rivera. He graduated from high school in 1981, with a certificate in vocational education in automobile repair and painting. He then received a Bachelor's degree from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in Elementary Education, and an associate degree in Special Education. Puerto Rico Senatorial District V, also known as the Senatorial District of Ponce, is one of the eight senatorial districts of Puerto Rico. It is currently represented by Marially González Huertas and Ramón Ruiz Nieves (both from the Popular Democratic Party). Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority
The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA; Spanish: ''LUMA'', ''AEE'') was an electric power company owned by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico responsible for electricity generation, power distribution, and power transmission on the island. PREPA was the only entity authorized to conduct such business in Puerto Rico, making it a government monopoly, until on January 22, 2018, former governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rossello, announced that all assets of the company will be sold in a general privatization of PREPA. The authority was ruled by a board of directors appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. The 2008 Puerto Rican general elections were held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 to elect the officials of the Government of Puerto Rico that would serve for the next four years, most notably the Governor of Puerto Rico. The election was won by incumbent Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico Luis Fortuño (from the New Progressive Party), who defeated the incumbent Governor, Aníbal Acevedo Vilá (from the Popular Democratic Party). Fortuño received 1,025,965 votes, and Acevedo Vilá 801,071. Also, most of the other positions were won by the candidates of the New Progressive Party, who ended up with a majority of seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives. The elections occurred after one term of what was called "shared government", as a result of the 2004 elections. Adjuntas, Puerto Rico
Adjuntas (, ) is a small mountainside town and municipality in Puerto Rico located central midwestern portion of the island on the Cordillera Central, north of Yauco, Guayanilla, and Peñuelas; southeast of Utuado; east of Lares and Yauco; and northwest of Ponce. Adjuntas is spread over 16 ''barrios'' and Adjuntas Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). Adjuntas is about two hours by car westward from the capital, San Juan. Adjuntas is nicknamed "the Switzerland of Puerto Rico", because of its relatively chilly weather.
