Luigi Vannuccini
Luigi Vannuccini (4 December 1828 – 14 August 1911) was an Italian conductor, composer and teacher of bel canto Life Born in Foiano della Chiana, Vannuccini began his musical studies with his father Ernesto, who had been singing teacher in Florence for Adelina Patti and continued at the conservatory of that Tuscan city. He was a violinist at the Teatro Leopoldo (formerly "Teatro Nazionale") and between 1848 and 1873 he conducted operas at the Teatro della Pergola. In Florence, moreover, he founded a singing school that soon acquired great fame, not only in Italy, but also abroad, particularly in America. He was a close friend of Rossini. He was part of the historical "Quartetto Fiorentino" with Giuseppe Buonamici, Bruni and . He was much loved as a teacher and orator. In England, a collection of "Solfeggi" from the best Italian vocal tradition was published. He composed sacred music, works for piano and chamber music. Foiano Della Chiana
Foiano della Chiana is a small agricultural town in eastern Tuscany, in the province of Arezzo, between the cities of Sinalunga and Cortona. It is well known for its annual carnival. History Foiano's name, according to a legend, derives from the god Janus who, when he went up the Tiber River and settled in the shadow of a hill, called it ''Flos Janus''. Also, a parchment dating back to 842 CE was found in which Lothar I mentions the Roman ''Campus Fugianus''. In 1383, control of Foiano passed from Arezzo to Florence and the inhabitants built fortified walls around the town. In 1387 the city became a free commune and the first communal statute was drafted. After the siege of the Aragonese, Foiano fell back into Florentine control and the new "heart shaped" town walls were built in 1480. Adelina Patti
Adelina Patti (19 February 184327 September 1919) was an Italian 19th-century opera singer, earning huge fees at the height of her career in the music capitals of Europe and America. She first sang in public as a child in 1851, and gave her last performance before an audience in 1914. Along with her near contemporaries Jenny Lind and Thérèse Tietjens, Patti remains one of the most famous sopranos in history, owing to the purity and beauty of her lyrical voice and the unmatched quality of her ''bel canto'' technique. The composer Giuseppe Verdi, writing in 1877, described her as being perhaps the finest singer who had ever lived and a "stupendous artist". The Teatro della Pergola is an historic opera house in Florence, Italy. It is located in the centre of the city on the Via della Pergola, from which the theatre takes its name. Gioachino Antonio Rossini (29 February 1792 – 13 November 1868) was an Italian composer who gained fame for his 39 operas, although he also wrote many songs, some chamber music and piano pieces, and some sacred music. He set new standards for both comic and serious opera before retiring from large-scale composition while still in his thirties, at the height of his popularity. Born in Pesaro to parents who were both musicians (his father a trumpeter, his mother a singer), Rossini began to compose by the age of 12 and was educated at music school in Bologna. His first opera was performed in Venice in 1810 when he was 18 years old. In 1815 he was engaged to write operas and manage theatres in Naples. Giuseppe Buonamici
Giuseppe Buonamici (19 February 1846 – 18 March 1914) was an Italian composer, pianist and musicologist. Life Grandson of the opera singer Ferdinando Ceccherini, Buonamici was born in Florence. He started very early his musical studies, and already at the age of 14 was an appreciated pianist, known by the stage name "Niccolini". In 1868 he moved to Munich to study piano and counterpoint with Hans von Bülow and Josef Rheinberger, and began his activity as a composer during his stay in Germany. In 1873 he returned to Florence, where he became director of the Cherubini Choral Society, founded the "Trio fiorentino" with Luigi Chiostri and Jefte Sbolci, and in 1893 he was appointed by royal decree professor of piano at the musical institute of the city. Bagni di Lucca (formerly Bagno a Corsena) is a comune of Tuscany, Italy, in the Province of Lucca with a population of about 6,100. The comune has 27 named frazioni (wards).
