Luigi Bertolini
Luigi Bertolini (; 13 September 1904 – 11 February 1977) was an Italian footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Born in Busalla, province of Genoa, Bertolini played in the 1920s for Savona, Alessandria and Juventus. He moved from Alessandria to Juventus in 1931, becoming an integral part of the remainder of their five-year championship run. In total, he played 135 matches for Juventus, scoring five goals, helping the team to win four Serie A tournaments. He retired from playing football in 1940. International career With the Italy national football team, Bertolini made his debut in 1929, and was a member of the teams that was runner-up at the 1931-32 Central European International Cup & winner at the 1933–35 Central European International Cup but most notably he was also a member of the team that won the 1934 FIFA World Cup. Alongside Luisito Monti and Attilio Ferraris, Luigi Bertolini made up the legendary Italian midfield established at the 1934 World Cup. ... Busalla
Busalla is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Genoa in the Italian region Liguria, located about north of Genoa. Its territory is crossed by the upper valley of the Scrivia river. Nearby is the artificial Lake Busalletta. History The first known mention of Busalla is in an 1192 document. Later it is known to have been held by the Spinola family, who here built a castle. This was sacked several times in the following century, in the course of the Wars of Guelphs and Ghibellines. In the 16th century the structure, again in ruins, was used as foundation of a new palace for the Spinola. Busalla became part of the Republic of Genoa in 1728. In 1815, together with the latter, it was acquired by the Kingdom of Sardinia. Prima Divisione (''First Division'') was the name of the first level of the Italian Football Championship from 1921 to 1926. The competition was initially founded in opposition to the FIGC by the richest clubs of Northern Italy, which disagreed the old format of the championship, based on plethoric regional groups. In 1921–22, two concurrent championships took place, before FIGC accepted the new format for 1922–23. The Battle of Highbury was a football match between England and Italy that took place on 14 November 1934 at Arsenal Stadium, Highbury, London. England won 3–2 in a hotly contested and frequently violent match. Background This was Italy's first match since they had won the 1934 FIFA World Cup that summer, although England had not taken part as the Football Association had left FIFA in 1928. England were still considered one of the strongest teams in Europe at the time, and the match was billed in England at least as the "real" World Cup final. The match was important enough to the Italians that Benito Mussolini had reportedly offered each player an Alfa Romeo car and the equivalent of £150 (about £6,000 in modernterms) if they beat the English. The match set a record, in that it was the first and so far only time that seven players registered with the same club (namely Arsenal) started for England.
