Luge At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Men's Singles
The men's luge at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held between 10 and 11 February 2018 at the Alpensia Sliding Centre near Pyeongchang, South Korea. The event was won by David Gleirscher, who became the first Austrian to win men's luge since 1968. Chris Mazdzer won the silver medal, whereas Johannes Ludwig won the bronze. For all of them, this was the first Olympic medal, and the Mazdzer's medal is the first ever medal for the United States in men's singles luge. This is the first time since 1988 than none of the medalists in men's luge had a medal of previous Olympics. The favorite and the defending Olympic champion, Felix Loch, was leading the field after three runs, but in the last run made a mistake which cost him a medal. Alpensia Sliding Centre
The Olympic Sliding Centre (올림픽 슬라이딩 센터) is a bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track that is located in Daegwallyeong, Pyeongchang, South Korea. The centre is located between the Alpensia and Yongpyong Resort. The venue is one of only two operating sliding facilities in Asia, along with the Spiral in Japan. It was renamed from Alpensia Sliding Centre to Olympic Sliding Centre in June 2017. Kevin Fischnaller (born 2 December 1993 in Brixen, Italy) is an Italian luge athlete who has competed in the Luge World Cup for Italy since 2011. During the 2014-15 Luge World Cup he won a bronze at Iglis in the men's spirit event. On 25 November 2017, during the 2017-18 Luge World Cup season, Fischnaller won his first world cup race, taking the gold at Winterberg. He placed ninth in the 2017 FIL World Luge Championships – Men's sprint event. Fischnaller competed for Italy in the Men's singles luge event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Dominik Fischnaller (born 20 February 1993) is an Italian luger who has competed since 2002. He has won silver and two bronze medals at Junior World Championships. Fischnaller won the Junior Luge World Cup for the 2010–11 season. His best Luge World Cup overall finish was third 2013–14 Luge World Cup. Fischnaller is an athlete of the Centro Sportivo Carabinieri. Biography Fischnaller competed for Italy in the Men's singles luge event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Shiva Keshavan
Shiva Keshavan, (born 25 August 1981) is a six-time Olympian and the first Indian representative to compete in luge at the Winter Olympic Games. He set a new Asian speed record at after beating the previous record of and won a gold medal in the 2011 Asian Luge Cup at Nagano in Japan. In 2012, he set a new Asian track record at 49.590 seconds. He is the reigning Asian Champion. Career Keshavan skied as a child and won the Junior National Ski Championship in 1995 at the age of 14. At the age of 15, he attended a luge camp at his school conducted by world champion Günther Lemmerer. Rupert Staudinger (born 15 July 1997) is a British-German luger. Born in Berchtesgaden in Bavaria to a German father and a Welsh mother, he grew up in Schönau am Königssee. Staudinger competed for the United Kingdom in the men's singles event at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
