Ludovica Levy
Ludovica Magdalena Marie Levy (née Dysten, from 1896 to 1906 Levy-Lavik; 7 September 1856 – 20 October 1922) was a Danish actress, theatre director and theatre critic. She toured with theatres in Denmark and Norway, and worked as instructor for Den Nationale Scene in Bergen. She chaired the theatre Sekondteatret in Kristiania from 1899 to 1901, together with her husband Dore Lavik. She founded the touring theatre Nationalturneen in 1907, and toured in Norway with this theatre until 1912. Personal life Ludovica Levy was born in Nakskov as the daughter of shoemaker Lars Henrik Dysten and Maria Magdalene Specht. She was married to actor and theatre director Bernhard Levy from 1873, and to actor Dore Lavik from 1896 to 1906. She died in Copenhagen in 1922. Dore Lavik
Dorotheus Olivarius Lavik a.k.a. Dore Lavik (4 June 1863 – 18 June 1908) was a Norwegian actor and theatre director. He worked as an actor at Den Nationale Scene in Bergen from 1895, and chaired the theatre Sekondteatret in Kristiania from 1899 to 1901, together with his wife Ludovica Levy. Personal life Dore Lavik was born in Hosanger as the son of farmer Johannes Andersson Lavik and Kari Andersdatter Kyte, and was a brother of Andreas Lavik and Johannes Lavik. He was married to actress and theatre director Ludovica Levy from 1896 to 1906. From 1904 he lived with actress and teacher Anne Marie Andersen, the later wife of Knut Hamsun. He died in Bergen in 1908. Career Lavik studied philology at the University of Oslo in the 1880s. Nakskov
Nakskov is a town in south Denmark. It is situated in Lolland municipality in Region Sjælland on the western coast of the island of Lolland. The town has a population of 12,495 (1 January 2022). To the west is Nakskov Fjord, an inlet from the Langeland Belt (''Langelandsbælt'') that runs between the islands of Lolland and Langeland. ''Urd'' was a Norwegian women's magazine that existed from 1879 to 1958. History and profile ''Urd'' was named after Urðr, a guardian of the Yggdrasil in Norse mythology. It was founded by sisters Cecilie and Anna Bøe in 1879. Satyr Play
The satyr play is a form of Attic theatre performance related to both comedy and tragedy. It preserves theatrical elements of dialogue, actors speaking verse, a chorus that dances and sings, masks and costumes. Its relationship to tragedy is strong; satyr plays were written by tragedians, and satyr plays were performed in the Dionysian festival following the performance of a group of three tragedies. The satyr play’s mythological-heroic stories and the style of language are similar to that of the tragedies. Its connection with comedy is also significant – it has similar plots, titles, themes, characters, and happy endings. The remarkable feature of the satyr play is the chorus of satyrs, with their costumes that focus on the phallus, and with their language, which uses wordplay, sexual innuendos, references to breasts, farting, erections, and other references that do not occur in tragedy.
