Lucina Hagman
Lucina Hagman (5 June 1853, Kälviä – 6 September 1946) was an early Finnish feminist and among the first female MPs in the world due to the 1907 Finnish parliamentary election. Life and career Hagman was the daughter of police master Nils Johan Erik Hagman and Margareta Sofia Nordman, a police chief in rural Kälviä. She was the sister of the educator Sofia Hagman and writer Tycho Hagman. She became a teacher and Jean Sibelius might be the most famous individuals to study at her school. She became active in women's causes serving in Parliament from 1907 to 1917. Of the 200 MPs elected in 1907 just 19 were women. Kälviä
Kälviä ( sv, Kelviå) is a former municipality of Finland. Kälviä was consolidated with the city of Kokkola on Jan 1, 2009. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Ostrobothnia region. The former municipality had a population of 4,475 (2003) and covered an area of of which was water. Alexandra Gripenberg
Alexandra Gripenberg, also known as Alexandra van Grippenberg, (1857 – 24 December 1913) was a Finnish social activist, author, editor, newspaper publisher, and elected politician, and was a leading voice within the movement for women's rights in Finland at the turn of the 20th century. She was also known as a Fennoman. Biography Gripenberg was born in 1857, and her family were Swedish-speaking nobles. She was instrumental in the establishment of the first official women's rights organization in Finland, the Suomen Naisyhdistys (Finnish Women's Association), in Helsinki in 1884 and became one of its active members. She served as the president of the association for two terms, 1889–1904 and 1909–1913. Between 1887–1888, she traveled in England and the United States, to study lessons from the women's movements of those countries. Fredrika Bremer
Fredrika Bremer (17 August 1801 – 31 December 1865) was a Finnish-born Swedish writer and feminist reformer. Her ''Sketches of Everyday Life'' were wildly popular in Britain and the United States during the 1840s and 1850s and she is regarded as the Swedish Jane Austen, bringing the realist novel to prominence in Swedish literature. In her late 30s, she successfully petitioned King Charles XIV for emancipation from her brother's wardship; in her 50s, her novel '' Hertha'' prompted a social movement that granted all unmarried Swedish women legal majority at the age of 25 and established Högre Lärarinneseminariet, Sweden's first female tertiary school. It also inspired Sophie Adlersparre to begin publishing the ''Home Review'', Sweden's first women's magazine as well as the later magazine '' Hertha''. Martha Organisation
The Martha organisation (Finnish: Marttaliitto, Swedish: Martharörelsen) is a Finnish organisation, founded by Lucina Hagman in 1899. The organisation defines its activities as follows: "The Martha organisation is a citizens' organisation providing advice in home economics, with the aim of furthering welfare in homes and families, and providing diverse activities and possibilities of influencing the community to its members." The Martha organisation takes its name from the Biblical figure of Martha. The organisation has a three-tier structure. Hilma Sohvi Räsänen (28 March 1877 – 20 January 1955) was a Finnish educator and politician.
