Lucia Mida
Lucia Gueth Mida (August 4, 1887 – April 1952), also known as Mrs. Lee Mida and Louise Mida, was a golfer from Chicago, Illinois. She won the 1930 Women's Western Open, which was later designated by the LPGA as the first women's major. Mida was an experienced competitor at that time. Biography Mida was born Hedwig Louise E. Gueth in Chicago, Illinois, to German immigrants August Gueth and Clara Friederich. Lee was her husband's name; wives and widows often used their husband's name with a "Mrs." added on back in her era. Her husband would become the Chicago City Champion in 1909; leading the way to her own golfing career. In addition to the 1930 Women's Western Open, Mida also won the Women's Western Amateur in 1923 and the Florida Women's State Golf Association State Amateur Match Play Championship in 1929 and 1930 (defeating Mrs. John L. Mount Plymouth is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, Florida, Lake County, Florida, United States. The Women's Western Open was an American professional golf tournament founded in 1930. The LPGA was established in 1950, and it recognized the Western Open as one of its major championships through 1967. All of the events back to 1930 have been designated as majors by the LPGA. Women's golf has a set of major championships which parallels that in men's golf, with the women's system newer and less stable than the men's. As of 2013, five tournaments are designated as majors in women's golf by the LPGA Tour. LPGA majors Current position The LPGA's list of majors has changed several times over the years. Curtis Cup
The Curtis Cup is the best known team trophy for women amateur golfers, awarded in the biennial Curtis Cup Match. It is co-organised by the United States Golf Association and The R&A and is contested by teams representing the United States and "Great Britain and Ireland". The same two teams originally contested the Ryder Cup, but unlike that competition, the Curtis Cup has not widened the Great Britain and Ireland team to include all Europeans (nor has the analogous event for amateur men, the Walker Cup). June Beebe
June Beebe Atwood (March 27, 1913 – November 10, 2003) was an American golfer. She was born in Chicago, Illinois. She won the Women's Western Open 1931 and 1933, and finished second in 1930 and to Jane Weiller 1932. She competed in college for the Northwestern Wildcats. She also competed under her married name, Mrs. Phillip Atwood. She also won the Chicago Women's District Golf Association's Championship twice, in 1933 and 1935. p 30.
