The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). It includes teams from clubs based in the eastern states of Australia: Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and includes reserves teams for the east coast AFL clubs. The league evolved from the former Victorian Football Association (VFA), and it has been known by its current name since 1996. For historical purposes, the present-day VFL is referred to as the VFA/VFL, to distinguish it from the present-day Australian Football League, which in turn was known until 1990 as the Victorian Football League and is thus referred to as the VFL/AFL. Vin Coutie (before 1911)
Arthur Vincent "Vin" Coutie (28 October 1881 – 17 June 1951) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1900s. A forward, Coutie topped the VFL's goalkicking in 1904 with 39 goals and became the first Melbourne player to achieve this distinction. Coutie was also the leading goalkicker at Melbourne in 1903 and 1908. He twice kicked eight goals in a game in his career, firstly in 1904 against Geelong and again in 1908 against St Kilda. Coutie was a Victorian interstate representative in 1903 and 1904. Harold Vivian "Vic" Cumberland (4 July 1877 – 15 July 1927), also known as Harry Cumberland, was an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL) and the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Early life The youngest son of Peregrine and Lillian Cumberland, he was born in Toorak, Victoria, on 4 July 1877. His older, much taller and much heavier brother, Cec Cumberland, played five senior VFL games for Melbourne in 1899 alongside Vic – and, due his brother's size, weight, and seniority, Vic was often referred to as "Little" Cumberland.
