Luc Mesadieu
Luc Mesadieu is a Haitian political figure and member of the political party New Christian Movement for a New Haiti (Mochrena). Mesadieu has been a political opponent of former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide. He has been attacked in his home in December 2003 by thugs associated with Aristide, among them Amiot Métayer. His assistant, Ramy Daran, was burned to death that day. Early life Mesadieu is a dentist by profession. He worked for Jean-Claude Duvalier as his personal dentist. Mesadieu is an Evangelical pastor with two churches in the city of Gonaives. New Christian Movement For A New Haiti
The Christian Movement for a New Haiti (''Mouvement Chrétien pour une Nouvelle Haïti'', Mochrenha) is a political party in Haiti. History The party was founded in 1991 by Evangelical Protestant churches. Mochrenha was registered officially as a political party on 25 January 1999, but only on 13 July 1999 was it recognized by the electoral authorities. The party gained three seats in the Chamber of Deputies at the 2000 elections. In the presidential elections of 7 February 2006, its candidate Luc Mesadieu won 3.35% of the popular vote. Jean-Bertrand Aristide
Jean-Bertrand Aristide (born 15 July 1953) is a Haitian former Salesian priest and politician who became Haiti's first democratically elected president. A proponent of liberation theology, Aristide was appointed to a parish in Port-au-Prince in 1982 after completing his studies to become a priest. He became a focal point for the pro-democracy movement first under Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier and then under the military transition regime which followed. He won the 1990–91 Haitian general election, with 67% of the vote. As a priest, he taught liberation theology and, as a president, he attempted to normalize Afro-Creole culture, including Vodou religion, in Haiti. Aristide was briefly president of Haiti, until a September 1991 military coup. Amiot Métayer
Amiot Métayer (died 20/21 September 2003) was a gang leader in Haiti. His gang, based in the northern city of Gonaïves, was called the " Cannibal Army". He was also known as "Ti-Cubain" (créole for Little Cuban). Although he had once worked for Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to put pressure on his political opposition, the government arrested him for arson on May 21, 2002, after pressure from the U.S. government for his acts of violence towards political parties. At the time of his arrest, the Bush administration had been putting constant pressure on the Haitian government to arrest him as well as other such "handyman" that were being employed by Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. He was, however, freed from jail by members of his gang in August 2002 and proceeded to lead anti-government riots. Jean-Claude Duvalier
Jean-Claude Duvalier (; 3 July 19514 October 2014), nicknamed "Baby Doc" ( ht, Bebe Dòk), was a Haitian politician who was the President of Haiti from 1971 until he was overthrown by a popular uprising in February 1986. He succeeded his father François "Papa Doc" Duvalier as the ruler of Haiti after his death in 1971. After assuming power, he introduced cosmetic changes to his father's regime and delegated much authority to his advisors. Thousands of Haitians were killed or tortured, and hundreds of thousands fled the country during his presidency.
