Luba (singer)
Luba (born Lubomyra Kowalchyk ( uk, Любомира Ковальчук), April 24, 1958) is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter and recording artist from Quebec. She was professionally active from 1980 to 1990, 2000 to 2001 and is active again from 2007 to present. Career Luba performed with the band Zorya, which released a self-titled album in 1973. In the 1980s she was the vocalist for a band named ''Luba'', and in 1980 that band released the album ''Chain Reaction''. Luba later signed as a solo artist under that name. She released three more albums and two EPs. Two of her albums are certified platinum by the Canadian music industry (sales in excess of 100,000 units). She has nine top-40 hits on the Canadian pop charts. Her signature song is "Every time I See Your Picture" (1983). Her most successful song is a cover of Percy Sledge's " When a Man Loves a Woman" which reached No. 6 on the Canadian pop chart and No. 3 on the Canadian adult contemporary chart (1987). Luba ... A primarily solo work on her own label and her first in more than a decade, it did not produce as many sales or as much radio airplay as her previous albums. Multiple (cerebral) sclerosis (MS), also known as encephalomyelitis disseminata or disseminated sclerosis, is the most common demyelinating disease, in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. This damage disrupts the ability of parts of the nervous system to transmit signals, resulting in a range of signs and symptoms, including physical, mental, and sometimes psychiatric problems. Specific symptoms can include double vision, blindness in one eye, muscle weakness, and trouble with sensation or coordination. ''All or Nothing'' is the third full-length studio release on Capitol-EMI of Canada by Canadian singer, Luba and band. A powerful follow-up to her previous album, ''Between the Earth & Sky'' (it was another hit), and achieved platinum status due to hit singles such as "Giving Away a Miracle," "Little Salvation", "No More Words", and "Wild Heart" (produced and includes various instrumental contributions by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell). Pianist and fellow Canadian Paul Shaffer from the ''Late Show with David Letterman'' has a solo on the song "As Good As It Gets." Numerous other musicians have contributed to the release as well. World Popular Song Festival
The , also known as Yamaha Music Festival and unofficially as the "Oriental Eurovision", was an international song contest held from 1970 until 1989. It was organised by the Yamaha Music Foundation in Tokyo, Japan from 1970 until 1989. The first edition of the World Popular Song Festival (WPSF) took place on 20, 21 and 22 November 1970 with 37 participating countries from all continents. The concert was cancelled in 1988 due to the illness of the Shōwa Emperor; the final year was a charity concert for UNICEF, after which the contest was formally ended. History Belgium was represented at the 1970 edition by Daliah Lavi, famous for her role in '' Casino Royale'' (1967), the James Bond parody featuring Woody Allen as well with Samantha Gilles in 1987 ending second with the song Hold Me. Lisa Dawn Lougheed (; ; born September 9, 1968) is a Canadian former singer, dancer, voice actress, and songwriter. She is likely best known for her role in the animated television series ''The Raccoons'', where she performed for the soundtrack and voiced Lisa Raccoon. Early life Lougheed was born to mixed race parents; her father is a Scottish- Irish mix from Northern Ontario and her mother is a Black Nova Scotian with ties to North Preston and Guysborough. Lougheed's peers often mistook her mother for a maid. Lougheed started tap dancing at three years old. She was a dance major at the Etobicoke School of the Arts as a teenager, where she learned ballet, modern dance, and highland dancing. ''The Raccoons'' is a Canadian animated television series that ran on CBC from November 11, 1985 to March 19, 1991 in Canada and on Disney Channel from July 4, 1985 to August 28, 1992 in the U.S., with three preceding television specials from its inception in 1980, and one direct-to-video special in 1984.
